Download Studio7 trial version from Pinnacle site and install it.
Download hardware patch (1028) to add support for Windows 2000 and XP.
Now to make the patch work: copy the Studio 7 trial version in the ...\Program Files\Pinnacle Systems directory and rename all "studio_tr" names to "studio".
In particular the patch will look for "studio.exe", this can be verified with FileMon from www.sysinternals.com.
Anyway as soon as the patch find the executable it will install the drivers fully and correctly.
You will now see the card in such program as AMCap (Active Movie Capture) and start capturing right away.
However, the driver configuration panel is disabled for the most part and you cannot switch, for example, from NTSC to PAL.
But the driver takes its parameters from the registry, I don't remember the key name exactly but you should be able to find it by looking for something like "DCxx" as that's how the driver name starts.
If the key is correct you should see something like "Board_Config1" which contains two values:
MicroSecPerFrame is the duration of a frame in microseconds, so if you want a particular frame rate you put here (1000000 / FPS).
The other value is DriverParm and is a binary array that contains the configuration parameters.
Make a copy by exporting the registry key (File->Export... menu) and open the value for editing. You should see a "05" value followed by three zeroes "00 00 00" right in the first few bytes. Change the three zeroes into "01 01 01" and save this change.
Run AmCap again and the driver will start with an error... but! This time you will be able to configure the driver so make your changes and exit. Open the registry again and put the values back to "00 00 00", this will make the driver work again. Happy capturing.
I was able to use CaptureVCR and the driver was unlocked but I am not sure of the cause because I only tried that later.
