In 1952, I volunteered for combat in Korea, but wound up stationed just outside of Yokosuka, with a Marine Shore Party Battalion. We were on the water, and only about ten minutes or so by taxi from downtown Yokosuka. Three months later, I was transferred to Okubo, Kyoto, with a motor transport outfit.
But now my daughter, an Academy graduate, is being assigned to Yokosuka, and she would naturally like to visit my old camp there, if it is still there. BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE CAMP.
Can anyone tell me where I was statoned with the Shore Party?
Thank you very much!

You stated that you was 10 mins away from downtown Yokosuka, so you had to be a detachment at Yokosuka.
The base once had a bay which is now completely filled in and is part of the base.
There is a book about Yokosuka in which I found this out. Camp McGill is more than 2hrs away and that is now . During that time it hade to be at least 3 -3 1/2 hrs.
I will follow up on this for you. If any Marine was there , let us know as I am heading back to Japan again to get my stuff. I will ask for more info there.
