I shipped out from San Diego Sept. of 1954 and arrived at Kobe, Japan 22 days later aboard the U.S.S. Renville, PA227. I was based at Camp McGill right away but went to Camp Gifu for radio telegraph school. I was a radio telegrapher 2533 with the 3rd Shore Party Bn. that was based at Camp McGill along with the Navy SeaBees and an Army outfit and the recon bunch. We left there in I believe it was Feb. of 1955 and went to Kaneohe, MCAS T.H. with the 4th Marines to form the 1st Marine Brigade. Spent 22 more months in Hawaii
After the Marines I went to college using G.I. Bill, learned to fly, spent 31 years with American Airlines as a pilot. Retired 12 years ago.
