sailed fropm san diego on12-22-54 on msts nelson M walker, arrived about
twelve days later at Kobe. my first impression going to camp
shinodayama was that many people had t.b. what with all the paper face
masks they were wearing. I was in the machine gun platoon A-1-9 .MY co
was capt.henry jacobson the MOH winner.A GREAT GUY,also he was from NYC
so we had something in common. about 5 months later we pulled an amphib
on okinawa and then wound up in thailand on operation firmlink, that was
around feb. and march of 1956. anybody out there remember that chinese
fire drill? anyway it was a great time and being 18 made it even
better. wonderful loyal guys and great leadership from our mustang
officers andthe staff nco's. it was training for then as well as for
later. SEMPER FIDELIS
