Ivan thanks for the response to my 22 Aug msg. Japan in the 50s ! Man I don't know how it could've been any better, unless it was to have spent my whole enlistment there. I got off the USS Renville in Feb 57 at Yokosuka. Then to Charlie Amtracs. A last name Dabbs,Stockton, Calif. and a Don Williams, Cairo, Illinois, were in Charlie and may have been there in 56 when you were. I've not seen Dabbs since once in Calif., about(1959?).Williams & I hooked-up in 73 in San Diego and untill 98 we'd kept in real close touch.Don't know his location now. Yeah, how about THE ALLEY & EM CLUB in Yokosuka. Do you also recall Casino Nights on McGill and man oh man those wonderfull girls----EVERYWHERE, not only in town, but on base too!

Meant to touch base with you sooner
but due to neglect and family
concerns just didn't do so.
Do you by chance have any pictures
of the Camp McGill and Yokosuka area
that you would sell copies of?
What part of the country are you located
in? I am originally from southeast Kansas
but retired from a federal agency in 1988
in the Springfield, Missouri area and now
live about 20 miles east of Springfield.

Thanks for the questions. My folks were born in Midway&Pittsburg Kansas, and raised about 6 miles away in Arma. During the Depression they moved to Chicago, where I was born&raised and where I enlisted.Since Discharge:commercial tuna fishing, casino surveillance and other things but most of the past 32 years as a Licensed Private Investigator, in San Diego. As to the pictures of Heaven you asked about:during a household move, in 1986,my car was stolen; in the trunk:ALL those wonderful photos and much more. Which Federal Agency were you with? And which town in SE Kansas ?

Visited Camp McGill in 1956 while on leave from Okinawa. Can you remember the name of the town next to McGill? I am trying to remember how I got there from Tachikawa and/or Tokyo.

The closest address that I recall is Otawa, but it was no town to visit. The cab ride was to Yokosuka, Navy base and good town to visit. From there to Yokohama and Tokyo. Arrived McGill December 1956, to Okinawa fall 1957, Phillipines Nov 1957, back to states Jan 1958 from Tokyo. Had tank platoon in 3rd Tank Batt.

I was at Camp Mcgill in 1957, in B Co. 3rd Tks. We moved from McGill to Camp Kubasaki, Okinawa, then to Tent City, Camp Hansen, Okinawa after the tents were put back up after a storm.
The name of the town next to Camp McGill, I beleave, was Takiama, Japan.

I arrived Camp McGill December, 1956. Was in the advance group to Okinawa fall of 1957 preparing for move out of Japan. 3rd tanks had already gone down. I remember the constuction of a tent camp that was never moved into. It was destroyed by a storm just as the troop ships were arriving. Went down to the Phillipines in November, 1957. Returned to Okinawa Jan 1, 1958. From there to Tokyo to San Fransico. Released from active duty then on to home Memphis. Member of the Basic School class 2-56.
