Jason sat on a hill looking over the city of Corinth, and watched at the shadows danced across the countryside surrounding the city. He sighed inwardly as he thought about everything that had happened, and wandered what was about to.
Would he make a good king, or a great king like his late father? Maybe his people would revolt against his ruling, and plot to murder him. Would they do that with poison? Or maybe an arrow shot from above, at a short distance? Perhaps maybe a poisoned arrow?
He shook his head violently, forcing all the negatives thoughts out of his mind, only they were too stubborn to be shifted.
He let his head flop into his hands, and he rubbed his face, then his hair. Was he even ready to be king? Maybe he should have asked to be crowned when the leaves began to die… But he agreed the best time was when the flowers were scattered all around, and nature flourished.
He sighed again thinking about his bride to be. Why had he agreed to an arranged marriage? Oh yes, he could recall it was that he’d definitely have a Queen-one of high standard. She was to be a princess of a distant kingdom. But what if he didn’t like her?
Well, it was his own fault, something he’d constantly remind himself of, if only he’d told Aimee he loved her sooner (hey, a girl can dream!) she wouldn’t have gone off with that sea-man. Yet, he loved her and she loved him, or she said she did.
When Jason had confessed to her his feelings, she just smiled and walked away. It was too late for such confessions by then…
Jason sighed for the third time, four summers had passed since then. She had a small boy now, her life no longer had room for him in it. Yet, his feelings for her was still as strong as they had been all those Summers ago. Perhaps he just thought he loved her, because he could not have her.
He glanced up at the sky, Apollo’s Chariot was just in front of him. he sighed again, it wasn’t just the sun that just before him, but also his Coronation.
He stood and wandered why he couldn’t just walk backwards and step into the past. He tried once when he was younger, just after his father had died. He wanted to go back and tell him everything he needed to, and take back all that was said that was bad. Yet the only place he ended up if he walked four steps back was four steps away from he was to begin with.
He was so lost in thought he didn’t hear Hercules and Iolaus walking up behind him until they were by his side. “Hey,” he greeted without looking at them.
“Hey,” they greeted back.
“You ready?” Iolaus asked gently.
Jason nodded, took a step forward and turned to face them, “Yes,” he smiled, a smile they returned.
That was when he realised, it didn’t matter what was to be, he had his friends behind him, and by him, ready to give him the help he needed along the way, as well as a push behind.
