You Really Don't Know?by You Pulling My Leg? (no login) For all DPM Podiatry Schools it is the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. They are an independent organization at arms length from the academic institutions. This council exists to accredit the podiatry programs at the various universities throughout the United States. They serve to ensure that the didactic and clinical education being provided conforms with the standard that has been established nationally to permit a podiatrist to be able to practise with all the rights and privileges that licensure grants. Without this accreditation the academic institution cannot confer the degree, "Doctor of Podiatric Medicine" onto its graduates. Similar accrediting councils exist across North America for all the healthcare professions including medicine, dentistry, and so on. This is one check and balance that serves to assure the public that this doctor graduate from a given academic institution has been properly trained commensurate with the standard established nationally. The other check and balance is of course the licensing examination which all graduates have to pass before being granted a license to practise in a given jurisdiction. Tell me this isn't news to you!
