proudly Canadian, fiercly pro Americanby anonD.Ch. (no login)For the record, we need to appreciate the scholarship of both the Oxford and Webster dictionaries. Each was written to a different audience. One to standarize UK English the other to standarize US English. As you stated, Webster began his research in the 1780's. It was not until approx. a century later that Oxford finally began his work. As with most things, America leads and eventually the rest of the "free" world sees the light and follows. It was not until the 1980's or so that Chiropodist's around the world began to utilize local anesthesia and minor surgeries in their practices, heck it wasn't until well into the 1990's that Ontario Chiropodist's began utilizing these necessary techniques. Unlike our US colleagues, they began in the 1960's. In the US the better title of Podiatry (treatment of the foot)was introduced and adopted in the 1960's. Around the world, this title although coveted has been recently adopted In the UK, Australia etc. We here in Canada, to this date prefer the archaic hand foot title. Once again it is only a matter of time before we finally adopt the podiatry title, increase our level of education and follow in our American neighbors footsteps. As with most things in the public interest like democracy, freedom and liberation, protection of rights, self sacrifice, the free vote and oh, lets not forget, the best quality health care(albeit accessibility is a problem) unlike ours, mediocre, only accessible in the big city but not available when you need it ( I know, but it least its free, um, I guess you get what you pay for). America, we better hope, will continue to be strong and continue to lead, so that all "free" nations will remain "free" and strong including Canada. The alternative is very scary indeed. As for "weak beer" I AM CANADIAN,is hardly a slogan to be proud of. Stronger beer is not necessarily better. As for BSE free meat, they had an instance, we have had far too many. We can only blame ourselves, like America, the rest of the world will not buy our beef. As for the decadent Krispy Kreme doughnuts, we Canadian's prefer the heathlier and equally decadent deep fried, sugar coated and glazed Tim Horton's variety. Today, I was made aware that the Ontario Chiropody program will not have a intake for 2005, apparently for the purpose of a program review. Once again we we want to evolve, we desire to better the program adopt a more advanced curriculum. We want to be more like our US counterparts. Need I say More. Return to Index |
