Michener program suspension

In response to your inquiry about Michener's suspension of the program I thought I might be able to answer some of your questions. I am a current student. My understanding of the situation as it has been communicated is that the reasons for suspension primarily lie in the need to ensure reliable clinical placements are available for upcoming students. Cuts to hospital chiropody programs, which served as 3rd year placement have created some issues especially in ensuring students are able to pursue placements within the GTA.

Off the record, some faculty have advised me that there are other issues behind this choice, and there are mixed feelings about the decision. In any event, the faculty are hopeful that they can use the time to strengthen the program and fill in some holes in the the ciriculum that are very apparent as a student. I have also heard that there is a push to move towards involving federal and provincial chiropody related bodies and representatives of the CPMA and OPMA to encourage some amount of unity that may strenghten the status of the program when it gets back on track.

I hope this helps.
