2 bad that DPM&DCh = O.P. X 2

Your post mentioned a DPM who tried to provide orthotics to treat a patient with gout. How many patients have this happen to them in Ont is unknown and how many write letters to the Minister of Health is also unknown. Obviously the podiatrist was a orthotic promoter and an opportunitic practioner (O.P. x 2)! Podiatrists aren't the only ones. A case comes to mind of a chiropodist who provided free foot assessments at city hall. Everyone who came to see "Brian" got fitted with pre-fab orthotics and their Cumba extended insurance was billed $400 for the $40 shells. He got his wrists slapped by cocoo and told not to do it again, another "O.P. x 2". A patient I saw came into to have his plantar wart treated it was bothering him, I used Cantharone 3 applications during a 10 day period charge $50/treatment and will re-do the 3 sessions if the treated V/P recurs. He was doubtful and very suspicious so I wrote it on paper and personally promised him that it would work or else it would be done over at no charge and it would be re-done as many times as necessary for free to get rid of it. He finally agreed and sure enough 2 wks later it appeared to be gone and a month later there were no signs of it. Then I heard about the previous treatment that a chiropodists, an opportunistic practioner, had done. He was elusive about how long it would take... but the treatment was once a week at a cost of $25/treatment for 50% salysilic acid in paste, debridement and further application until it was eradicated. Well one month turned into 6 months and then one year later it was almost gone... so the patient without extended health insurance spent $1200 to get try to get rid of a plantar's wart that I treated in 10 days with Cantharone for $150. Some individuals reading this post will think that I missed a golden opportunity to make a good income by using 90% sal. in petrolatum and offering a similar treatment but promising to get rid of it within 6 months and if it was still there then resort to Cantharone at no charge after waiting at least a month after the last sal. application. The patient was happy with me but quite annoyed with the other chiropodist. If this patient wrote a letter to the Health Minister and other pissed off patients did (and do), it certainly explains why the profession is going nowhere. With DPMs and DChs so interested in making money off the uninformed public that all the opportunistic practioners manage to do is to keep shooting their profession in the foot in terms of public relations and government attitude towards them. Way to go DPMs and DChs. Is this one of the reasons why Queen's Park shut down podiatry in Ontario??

And so today, chiropodists trying to make a living are more or less O.P. x 2 . Yes, orthotic pushers and oppportunistic practioners see the post "stop complaining and take advantage of opportunites!" to see what I mean.
