We've never had more than 100 American trained guys here. The current system gives them partial OHIP and access to insurance. Is there a great demand for what a podiatrist does compared to what a Chiropodist plus everyone else does?
If a patient in Ontario want bunion surgery they typically go to an Orthopedic Surgeon because it goes hand in hand with what they are trained to do "not pay for health care".
The DPM's do OK in the USA because 220 million Men, Women and children have coverage of some sort -HMOs, Medicade and the like and are coditioned to a certain extend on what to expect. Our system currently says MD=free, in hospital=free, but almost everything else insurance if you have it and/or need to look at it.
side note- how many of your customers know their exact insurance coverage?
If magically we had 450 "podiatrists" instead of the 450 DPMs and D.Ch.'s (with the OHIP cap on or off) would there be a great demand for the potential additional services a DPM can provide?
