AIMEE!!!

March 17 2003, 12:54 AM

Hey Girl! Haven't caught you on IM in a while!

So I was hanging out in the bookstore, browsing through the Buffy/Angel books... Who am I kidding? I was reading the back of practically every Buffy/Angel book, trying to find something interesting to buy and read. When what to my wandering eyes does appear but Doyle's cactus-face on the cover of a book! So I pick it up, and though Doyle isn't himself in it (I don't think), it's a Buf/An crossover where they have to fight the Scourge again, and Harry Doyle is like mentioned in the first sentance. So I thought you'd want to know about the book, get another Doyle-related fix. It's called "Monster Island" by Christopher Golden and Thomas Sniegoski.

Dust cover summary:

"You never know until you're tested." -- Doyle, "Hero"

Since he arrived in Los Angeles, Angel's mission has been to help the helpless. He has saved countless innocents in his city. However, one escaped his grasp: Doyle, the hard-drinking, easy-living half-demon who came to Angel on a vision quest. Doyle sacrificed himself and in turn reconciled his internal conflict toward his own demonic heritage, leaving Angel (with Cordelia and, ultimately, a new cadre) to carry on with the good fight. And fight they do.

But as the group squares off against evil in the City of Angels, little do they know that back in Sunnydale trouble is brewing as usual. A shakedown of snitches yields info: Someone other than Buffy has been slaying -- and whoever it is, he or she is strictly after half-breeds, going so far as to lie in wait to attack. It doesn't add up, and the Scoobies are stumped.

Back in L.A. the picture becomes clearer when Angel Investigations is visited by an unexpected guest. It's Doyle's father, a Brachen demon named Axtius. He's come to give Doyle a gift: Daddy's going to rid Doyle of his pesky human side. In fact he's looking to rid the world of half-breeds. He's not happy to learn that Doyle's gone, and if someone is to be blamed, it's Angel. But Axtius doesn't have time to point fingers -- he knows where the mixed-blood demons have set up camp. Before long Buffy and her avengers have assembled right alongside Angel and Co. Both slayer and vampire have skirted the boundaries of humanity, but neither can support a massacre. A crime against monsters is a crime nonetheless....

Grrr.... Arrgg......

March 17 2003, 6:35 PM

I'm not online at any specific time anymore. I'll try to catch you soon though.

The book's okay, but the one thing that pisses me off is how Angel and Spike's relationship is portrayed in it. Yeah, they've tried to kill eachother before, but Geez! They're Sire and Child, man! When Spike saw Angel nailed to the roof, I was expecting some sort of grief on some level. Spike strikes me as the kind of guy who might insult you or hurt you, but he won't let anyone else insult or hurt you, y'know? So yeah, he'd be admiring the handiwork, but he'd also be plotting bitter vengence on whoever hurt his Sire. sighs And Angel's first thoughts while he's healing are about staking Spike? Nevermind the fact that Spike nearly got himself burned to a crisp saving him, noooo... sighs And then Angel gets all self-rightous about how he's doing good, and Spike is just a pale imitation of him. growls Brooding guilt-ridden Angel I like, Self-rightous arrogent Angel I wanna hit. Plus he was contemplating staking Spike, which makes me all anti-Angel. grr *arrg* Vampires aren't humans, they have a much more contemplated relationship than what the book suggests.

Not to mention, ther is almost no characterization for Spike. He's the white-haired man who's always smoking a fag. Seems like every other page he's smoking. Now I know that it's part of his TV character, but this is a book, where you're supposed to be able to see into his thoughts... Is it too much to ask for a bit more characterization?

Also, unless you watched the show, you wouldn't know for several pages after she was introduced that Tara was female.

And don't even get me started on the descriptions. Did you check out the fight scenes? The first one is where Buffy fights half-breed killers in the alley outside of Willy's; the second is when Buffy's fighting one guy in the Magic Shop while the other two attack everyone else, and the third (so far) is when Angel is fighting Doyle's Dad in the alley. Did you notice, each time the enemy's first attack is faster than Buf/An expected? I swear, they almost use the exact same words! growls

But it's a Doyle book, so I'm going to keep reading it, no matter how pissed I get at the Angel/Spike relationship, the lack of characteration, and the lack of original descriptions.

There was only one part I liked, was when Spike and Xander are talking about Spike's loin-spawn. I cracked up laughing. So far I think it's the only good part in the whole book, but hey, I'm biased towards Spike/Xander.

Quote fron the back of the dust jacket:

Our rates are low, but our standards are high. When the chips are down, and you're at the end of your rope, you need someone you can count on. Someone who'll go all the way. Who'll protect you no matter what. Come on over to our offices, and you'll see that there are still heroes in this world.

starts crying I've gotta go mourn some more.

I've always thought of getting a pearcing at the top curve of the ear for a small hoop, but I'll never get a bar across it like you. You're so brave! The only other piercing I might get someday is a tounge peircing, but I've heard that it closes up really fast, so I don't know. Maybe someday ^_~

March 17 2003, 10:25 PM

That looks really cool! Cool, but painful! I wanted to get my ear peirced at the top, but my mom won't let me My ears got infected and I've had to repeirce them so many times, she says it'll be worse up there... I also wanna get a belly button ring, but my mom says no for the same reason... My godmother says I should have a friend drive me, then forge the signature, and get it done anyway, but my dad says he'll take it out even if he hasta use powertools, hehe.

btw, Bryn, I know a bunch of ppl who have/had their tounge peirced. Several swallowed the stud, but someone I know still has it. You can't tell she has it till someone really cracks her up, then you can see a little bobbing ball of metal on her tounge, hehe, it's really cool... 'cept everyone says it hurts like heck...

That's just

March 17 2003, 11:53 PM

I remember crying like a baby when I got me ears pierced. And then crying again last week when I had to go get my shots. LOL Me and needles like to stay a far distance apart.

Do you have anywhere else that needs to be pierced? L The grossest piercings are some that my friend has. He pierced his nipples last year for his birthday. For like the first week they were just red and gross to look at. It's cool now, but still.

You should buy a charm to hang from it. I think that would make even more people look at your ear. Maybe a mini-Strife charm. L

Your ears . . .

March 17 2003, 11:59 PM

Did you get them done with guns?

If so, that's most likely why it got infected. Cartilage shatters when you get it pierced with a gun (which is just a puncture wound and forms a lot more scar tissue).

I would recommend getting them pierced with a needle (it may hurt more but if definitely worth it). And clean it with Saline (NOT rubbing alcohol - it mutates the scar tissue) twice a day.

I also have my tongue pierced. It didn't hurt at all, just afterwards (the discomfort of swelling). It's one of my most favourite piercings (I'll let you guys guess where the other ones are . . .).

I'm probably going to get a dermal punch (a 'punch' which removes a circular area of skin) in my conch (inner ear) at 8 gauge (about | | thick).

ACK!

March 18 2003, 12:04 AM

I would definately think that would be the worse possible place to get one. Probably the eh...best but still. L

18 eh? Hmm...maybe I could go opt for that one.

Celest

Selene

24.70.95.205

Yep!

March 18 2003, 12:06 AM

But, I compared it to my nipples. They didn't hurt at all to get pierced. The cartilage was definitely the most painful out of all my piercings, and I don't have any of that down where I want a piercing

Too bad I would never do that one myself.

I guess I'll opt for waiting, might be a good idea

Haha

March 18 2003, 12:08 AM

I'll probably just stay with my two ears pierced. I'm such a baby and also really lazy. L Eventually I'll have to give up one of them, but oh well.

I'd stay on longer, but I've got to go. Have to go meet my new lil' guy. Oh Strify poo! Where are you?

Yup

March 18 2003, 12:58 AM

They were done with guns... Note to self: Claire's is not the place to get ears pierced.

I think I'm going to give myself a third hole on my right ear (I have 1 on left and 2 on right), but I dunno yet...

Someone at school has that. It looks really awesome! Someone else has a blue cone through their ear that's big enough to put a pencil through. It's really cool! It's amazing what you can get pierced!

Casche

Selene

24.70.95.205

Ohh

March 18 2003, 1:26 AM

Yikes, Claire's? :S!!

hehe

You mean tapers (the cones) I might do that. I want to gauge the bottoms of my ears from 18 to 10, but I am currently broke (maybe next paycheque).

And dermal punches are mucho expenso (200 bucks).

So we'll see!

But, if you do decide to get another piercing, I would recommend getting it with a needle. It's way better (and you don't have to look at it while he/she's doing it).

Selene

Casche

205.188.209.105

Yeah...

March 18 2003, 2:45 AM

shrugs Needles are no biggie to me... I would rather have it done with a needle than a gun. The guns scare me, hehe, but needles don't since I've had my blood drawn about 50 times had epilepsy So, yeah, that's what'll do.

Wow, 200? I don't think I've ever had that kinda money, hehe! People at my school do really wacky things... I get a lotta odd looks for staring at ppl... 'course, I do that rather they have holes in their body or not.... uhm, yeah...

I know what you mean. I had bright (like flourescent) pink hair (and I'm redying it soon) but I bleached it out. And my ears are covered when I fill all the piercings in them. People always used to stare at me just for my hair though. I loved it

I think it's funny . . .

March 19 2003, 11:40 PM

People absolutely despise me most of the time. They think I'm wierd because of the way I look (what, you can't even SEE most of my piercings . . .)

But I enjoy it. Best thing ever.
