Well all I can say is write about stuff you know about. That's some advice I was first given when I started writing! Go to the fanfic board or fanfiction.net to read some other stories for inspiration. I'm sure that your story will be great and I can't wait to read it!

Well, the only way to learn how to write is by writing. It may be very hard at first but it'll get easier as you get more experienced.
Now as for ideas, you can play the "What if" game. What's this? Well, its where you ask yourself questions. Then you just pick the one that inspires you the most. You can do this several ways. For example, you like movies, right? Well, why not try putting Herc, Iolaus and Jason inside your fav movies?
Like:
What if Iolaus sawing a flying saucer (Independence Day)
What if Hercules meet a singing lion cub? (Lion King)
What if they meet a mermaid? (Splash, Little Mermaid)
What if there was a killer at the Academy (Scream)
You are NOT rewriting the movies, but using them as a way to think up ideas. Then figure it out on paper what happens in your story. It works best if you plot your story out from beginning to end BEFORE you start writing.
Here's another idea. What do you like, your interests? Use that do play the game. For example, if you like Ancient History, ask:
What if they went to Egypt and saw the pyramids? Maybe get lost inside one? Or maybe they are responsible for the damage to the Sphinx's nose?? How?? What happened?
If you like music:
What if Iolaus ran away and joined a band?
What if he tried to manage a band and got in trouble?
I like fantasy, so I often think of different types of fantasy creatures. I try to imagine what could happen if they meet these creatures.... So far I wrote stories that involve: unicorns, vampires, dragons, rats, ....
Here is ANOTHER way to generate ideas. It's called "WORD ASSOCIATION". You start with a word on paper and write more words that are related to that word. This helps get your brain working. Here is how it worked in one of my stories:
I was using my fantasy creature idea. I had the word "werewolf". This lead me to the word "Full moon". And that lead to a story idea. I figured Gabrielle would see the moon as something beautiful. It would inspire her to write. But Xena would react like a werewolf: it would make her jumpy and want to go kill something. There was no werewolf in the story at all. It was just about the dif viewpoints on the moon.
Here is another idea: Write to express what you are feeling. If you are depressed, you might want to write a sad, depressing story. One of my friends recently wrote a story because she was mad at someone. She got her anger out that way, which is better than socking someone in the face.
Or write to educate people about something. Look at the problems in TODAY's world: pollution, AIDS, racial hate, chopping forests down, endangered species, etc. Pick a problem you are concerned about and put that problem in Ancient Greece. Like pollution. What if Hephaestus' forge was polluting a nearby river and cadets at the Academy got sick?
Ideas are all around you: in books. movies, other TV shows, on the news, at school, even things that happened to your friends and family. Use that to write a story.
Ash is correct. You need to read a lot, too.
Have fun!!

I already write a lot of storie, mostly about different views of people on society. Some about how people react to suicide, etcetera etcetera. But your tips are really good! I never thought of it that way :)Thanks for your help!

In social studies I started writing a YH story I never intend to post. It will remain for eternity part-done.You can use or bend it to your will.
Some cadets are at Kora's eating. They see a little diim light flash in the kitchen. They go to investigate. What's back there? Is it a squirrell queen? An amnesia-monster?What could it be?
Whatever it is, if you have to catch it, say this (cuz I love this line) :"You're going to have to catch it if ___________,but that thing is more slippery than Zeus as a wet mackeral!"
HUGS!

PS-LOL!"You're just jealous because the little voices are talking to me." I'm gonna use that line on some people.(Hey I never saw one YH ep,how should I know the lines?) |

There is a very good (and funny) guide to writing at a site called The Less Than Legendary Journeys, which also has some very good Herc, Xena, and Young Herc fan fic posted (none of it mine, unfortunately).

I take a different approach to Smenzer and begin writing without a complete story blocked out. I do complete a story before I post any of it, however. If a plot takes a twist, sometimes you need to go back and edit an earlier part of a story to accomodate it. I have also added whole scenes, elaborated descriptions, added details, or expanded conversations in scenes I thought were "finished." It's true I've only completed a couple of stories (posted in the forum last December and January), but I've got a third one in the series where Iolaus is King Jason's secret agent in the works. That was the basic idea I started writing from: could Iolaus's old skills as thief and tracker be useful in a constructive (and exciting, I hope) way? ~Cheers, Belle |

hehe sorry, trying to teach myself Spanish and failing so...
The way that I like to write fan fics is by using members off of the forum because, face it, no one else really reads it and at least they get a good laugh from it. The other reason for using those people is because you basically know their attitudes after talking with them or reading stuff that they post.
Another way that helps me but might not help anyone else is to do something totally out of the normal. Example: In my school, to go through the halls you go one way to go into the hall and one way to go out of it. Walk on the other side and just look at peoples' faces and usually you get an idea. Or if that sounds like it won't give you anything new, start something like talking in pig latin all day or fake accents. I once did that and it gave me an idea for one which is (duh) still in my notebook. (Just wait till I can take my notebooks back home! Muuahaha!)
Something else intresting is to get like a fake muse and a real muse because there is really no way both of them can have a bad day at the same time or be gone at the same time. Unless your name is Celest. Then it sucks but oh well. Your real muse is someone you know in real life who every now and then or everyday does something intresting that makes you want to write a story about it. The fake muse is someone online who is there almost all the time and when on gives you ideas.
When in doubt though, find a conversation on here or anywhere else, and just make a story out of it. I know that on AIM, you find someone, start a stupid conversation, think about the conversation after you did it, and BAM instant comedy! It works for me.
For a drama, just call up one of your friends. If you are really adventurous, call up your grandma. You'll be there forever and after you start to daydream, like hang up and go write.
Basically, there is no hope.
