Information on maintenance

I now own my first mechanical watch, a Principia, and I am extremely pleased with it. Since I do not plan to stop with one mechanical watch, I am now looking for a dressier version and will seriously take one of the Phara models into consideration. My question is:

When a person owns more than one mechanical watch (like most people in this forum) and sets one aside for a few months, what is the recommended procedure for that watch to be in good order when worn again? Should I wind it at regular intervals or just leave it as is for the duration? Are the procedures different for automatic and manual watches?

Thank you
M. Lepage
