Response to If memory serves, the Hasegawa kit was a decal sheet with a standard kit included. n/t

. . . was the initial designation nominated by the USAF, but the two aircraft marked so were actually off the line Navy F-4B Phantoms. Hasegawa has reissued its F-4B kits (both scales) with decals for the F-110 markings.

However, the early F4H-1 Phantom IIs, maybe a dozen or so (?) had the small nose and lower "back seater" canopy, and other characteristics of the prototype. These were redesignated F-4A in 1962. I believe only the prototype had the faired top edge of the intake. I'm not familiar with the Aurora kit, but there was one on eBay just a couple of days ago. I just went to look and it's gone now. It may have had some characteristics of the early Phantoms.

Back in the 1990s, DB Models in the UK produced resin/white-metal kits to convert Hasegawa's F-4B kits (both scales) to the No. 1 prototype, and even provided decal markings for the bird at first flight. These are pretty hard to find (as you can imagine).
