Response to F-4E Missile Rails for AIM-9

Rick is right (AERO 3B), but there was also some use of the LAU-7A/A, which the USAF bought in anticipation of acquiring AIM-9Ds. The missile ran into development problems and when it did enter production there were barely enough to fullfil Navy needs,so the USAF modified their AIM-9Bs into -9Es (during the 1968-72 bombing halt) and -9Js (beginning in Aug '72). I mention this because there is a famous photo of Robin Olds pre-flighting a Sidewinder mounted on a LAU-7A/A.
