Response to Jet engine question #2: J-79 afterburner liner colour

Boy! its been a while, but I used to work these, F-4C and D, J79-15A, and E's The E was the smokless.
When you changed out the liners in the afterburner, the one closet the primary flaps and seals was the green color, noted in the nice photos in this thread. This one is #4, #3 just forward of it and slightly faded green, Then #2. All these liners were overlapped each the next one. #1 is actually the one that the flameholder is in. It was usually a bare metal color. The E like I mentioned was smokless (actually still smoked, but not near as bad. The liners stayed clean longer. The smoker ones did get a sooty appearance to them with some hours on them. When the pilot used the burner alot, this would usually clean them a bit.
