Hello

I would like to know are there any kits or conversion sets for the Chengdu J-7 Airguard preferrably in 1/72 scale please ??
I didn't found anything useful while searching (googling) from the web.
Any input would be appreciated.

TIA

least on my opinion when looking pics of them.
Of course I knew that they are chinese copies of Mig-21's or that they bases them.
But still based on the pics there are some differences on the shape of the wings.

There is also a version of the Chengdu F-7 with the same wing as the Mig-21.

J-7's

June 27 2011, 2:39 AM

The original J-7 was a reverse-engineered MiG-21F-13 Fishbed C, so you could use the Revell kit for example, but only 12 were produced.

The J-7I had the second fuselage 30mm restored, transitioning intake cone and a brake chute at the rear base of the fin.

The J-7II had a two-part canopy (fixed windshield and opening section hinged at the rear) and a new engine.

The J-7III was based on the MiG-21MF Fishbed J.

The J-7B had further canopy mods. The BS introduced 4 wing pylons, 2 per wing.

The J-7E introduced a new double-delta wing, this is probably what you saw. The follow on G, M etc also feature this.

Export versions are F-7's.

Best bet is converting Revell AG's 1/72 MiG-21F-13

Yefim Gordon's massive MiG-21 "bible" has the details you'd need, although there are some good drawings also available on airwar.ru. The earlier variants would be pretty easy, the newest ones would require a new wing at the very least (how has there not been a conversion from a Chinese aftermarket manufacturer for this?) The only actual kit of a J-7 that I can recall is an older 1/144 kit of the double-delta winged version by Trumpeter, and even that wasn't that good (trenchy detail).

edit: The above is true except for the limited-production J-7 III and J-7 IV, which were copies of the MiG-21MF. I can't recall offhand if there are good MFs in 1/72nd scale.
