The Trumpeter kit

April 6 2012, 1:11 PM

is out now, looks like. There's a review at Cybermodeler. I'm not a student of the 117, so I can't speak to the benefits of the kit, though.

yeah, all except the part about him being presumed dead.

Not really a review.....

April 6 2012, 6:31 PM

Mostly just an acknowledgement that it exists and looks pretty in the box. The "Review" didn't mention that it comes with the wrong weapons. It has GBU-10s, while the choosen weapon was the GBU-27, which Trumpeter actually makes, but choose not to include in this kit (they included it in the F-14B kit, though).

Agreed and More proof Trumpeter copied Tamiya

April 6 2012, 7:27 PM

as the Tamiya kit made the same ordinance mistake.

The CM reviews are nothing more than a description of what comes in the box. They should reclassify their reviews as "Kit Descriptions"

Do you mean Monogram, Mike?

April 6 2012, 8:48 PM

I checked my Tamiya 1/48 kit and it definitely has GBU-27s. My Monogram ProModeler F-117 has GBU-10s, though. Maybe they mixed and matched what kit they copied from, like their A-7 which seemed to be based on the Hasegawa kit, with the old Aurora/Monogram squashed intake and canopy mixed in. LOL.

As far as scaled up copy of Tamiya, no

April 6 2012, 11:30 PM

as the Trumpy kit does carry over many of the Tamiya details. but you're right on the Promodeller F-117 kitc GBU. I may be wrong on the GBUs included in the Tamiya kit, but there was something else in there was off. I'll check when I get home later.

GBUs

April 7 2012, 12:11 AM

Yeah, Mike. Even the Tamiya kit I bought from you doesn't have GBU-10s.

yeah, all except the part about him being presumed dead.

Not really and the Flight Path set

April 6 2012, 2:37 PM

for the Testors kit is nothing more than a dress up for a most inaccurate cockpit. In the end you get soft release PE that's not much more accurate than the kit parts. The FP set does little to nothing to correct anthing in the cockpit, much less the model overall.

Trumpeter's new 32nd F-117 is the one to get in 32nd scale. As typical of most Trumpeter modern 32nd jets of late, it's a scaled up copy of another Manufacture; in this case Tamiya's 48th F-117A.

One is being built over on LSP:

http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=38516

Typical of blind upscaling, most of the detailing suffers. In this case the cockpit, wheel wells, and gear. Missing are the canopy frame details; not surprising as it's missing from the 48th Tamiya kit as well. The Weapons bay fairs a little better. Full run intakes and Exhaust(not that you can see them once installed) are also included.

You only get the late gear and wheels, so one will have to resort to some skilled scratch building to do the early version.

At least being a Tamiya copy, most of the facets shape will most likely be quite accurate. I'll know more when I get my sample here in another week or so.

Wish I had some pix of F-117 engine panels open.......

April 7 2012, 11:14 PM

It would be interesting to be able to show the full-run intake-to-exhaust via opened panels....I've got lots of Black Jet books, but not maintenance pix.

That would be the only way to really show the Intake and Exhaust

April 8 2012, 2:19 PM

though with the engine out, the Exhuast is actually a T-Duct. Kind of a waste of engineering as usually from Trumpeter. A more complete cockpit and wheels wells would have been more beneficial.

I could go by memory, though I think I still have some of my CC manuals that might show some of the engine bay details.
