My brother used to work for the electric company, and whenever a storm hit an area away from Louisiana, he and dozens of other workers went to that area and worked until power was restored. It has been my observation that workers from all over the country do this in time of need. Hopefully, power will be restored shortly. After Hurricane Gustav, which happened while I was in Buffalo, I bought two additional 5 gal. gas cans (I now have 4), an 8000 btu window a/c unit, and a 5500 watt generator. I made a 220 volt jumber cable, and can hook to my drier socket. I cut my breaker box off, and can run my house on the generator. The refrigerator and freezer stay cold, I can watch the TV, and sleep in my cool bedroom. It's not perfect, but I get by. A lot of people here have gone to the big generators that come on automatically in case of a power failure, but they are out of my price range. We in Louisiana have learned to live with it. My hope is that everyone is restored quickly from the damage done by the storm.
