Four Day Hombre live at The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge (10/04/03) tickets £2.50
The public reaction to Four Day Hombre's latest single "The First Word is the Hardest" has been so overwhelming that BBC Radio One have recently been playing it everyday, having added the song to their national playlist. Since that time the band have been living it up on free meals and corporate hospitality from every record company they had ever heard of!
We are especially pleased to welcome the band back to The Lion Inn following their last visit on 30th January - the day the North of England was hit by freak snow storms. Most bands would have turned back in those treacherous conditions, but Four Day Hombre gallantly fought through blizzards, snowdrifts and mini-tornados to reach the venue. It took them nearly 6 hours to make the 60 mile journey from Leeds, but they played one of the most memorable gigs Blakey has seen.
Sadly only a handful of local music fans ventured out for that gig, so we organized a return visit straight away. It's fantastic to see a genuine hard-working band like Four Day Hombre getting recognized by the music industry. They deserve every success - somehow I can't imagine any of today's manufactured pop bands fighting through blizzards to get to such a remote gig!
2 Lead Vocals, 2 Guitars, Keys, Bass and Drums - Four Day Hombre are an ambitious and established band from Leeds. Their music is energetic, the stage show intense, the passion and determination behind it absolute. They are acclaimed music makers; producing songs and sounds which continually excite.
The challenge of pigeonholing the band has left the most experienced writers and promoters exhausted - indie/rock/pop? It's not that simple - they sound like Four Day Hombre and that's how they like it. Sublime harmonies, delicate atmospherics and songs that come from so deep down in the soul that they positively crackle with heartache. They describe their sound as "widescreen rock - a new angle on a broader canvas". Every track is a different experience but completely rooted in their own experiences. Melody, 4am nostalgia and big noises, they are visually and aurally spectacular and continually touring, writing and working to be the best they can possibly be.
As the manager at Fibbers music venue in York once said: "This is the music we'll all be listening to in two years time and, honestly, you just can't pigeonhole it. We've begged you to see bands here before (Coldplay, Travis, Reef, Stereophonics, etc.) and now we're on our knees again. Highly recommended, life-affirming, essential."
