This plant is just beginning to go to seed, and I am starting to crack open the seed pods and getting a few seeds from each. It looks like there will be some bigger pods further up the stem that are green right now, but look like there will be lots of seeds in them.
I'm wondering, how many people would like seeds for this? If there's a lot of interest, I'll make an effort to gather more seeds. If not, I'll get only enough for myself. It's a little tedious breaking open those hard pods, but I don't mind doing it if there is a demand for them.
The hummingbirds went gaga for this plant this spring, and I thought they were very pretty to look at. I have my single plant in clay soil but have added lots of sand and gravel. Even though I'm in a relatively wet eastern climate, (Pennsylvania) this plant did make it through last winter, so it definitely can survive eastern conditions if the soil is dry enough.
Let me know, folks, if you are interested in seeds for this plant, and I'll do my best to collect enough for everyone.

I would definitely be interested in P. eatonii seed. So far I have only collected a little coral bells and columbine seed which I know that you already have those

Kristen,
Do you have to ask? LOL Please put me on the list! My hummers are still going to my Penstemon barbatus coccinea's even though there are few blooms left on it, surprising! I have to get you a new pis of the Ruellia Elegans, they are shaping up quite a bit with 3-4 stems on each plant and such pretty flowers. I hope to gather seeds from them for next season.
You also sent me some Ipomoea Hederifora Var. Lutea that I sowed this year. Both the yellow (which I adore) and the orange variety. I have very little yellow in my gardens and they are perfect! I shared some of the seeds with Diana from the forum when she came to visit a few weeks ago. She loved those little blooms for her little birds.

I only got a little bit of seed from this plant, but I'll be happy to divide it between the two of you. I don't need any for myself, just hoping my 3 plants will survive into next year to bloom again. The seeds you'll be getting are all from my single blooming plant, and are kind of weird looking, with variability in their shapes. I hope they are viable. I found it difficult to get them out of the pods, and when I did, it was hard to tell the dark seeds from the crumbled bits of pods. But hey, free seed! If it grows, it grows, if not, I'm sure you'll both have plenty more successes with other things. Success and failure are all part of the game. You don't have to worry about sending me seed, Penny. Unless I dig another bed, I won't have much room, anyway.
I'm very glad to hear the Ruellia are doing so well for you, Pam. It is so thoughtful of you to give me the updates. Mine are doing fine, too, but seem much slower this year than last, I think due to all the clouds, rain, and cooler than normal temperatures. I have another Ruellia called R. brevifolia, which is blooming nicely, now, but I can't figure out how to get the seeds. I'm hoping to stake it out with my video camera (just leave it running while I do other things) and maybe I'll catch some action. They definitely use the R. elegans, but I don't think mine are blooming enough yet to divert them from more desirable plants like the Silene regia and the Ipomopsis.
Oh, and one more thing with the Ipomoeas. Do you have the straight yellow form, only? I have another yellow one called 'Pumpkin,' and it has a reddish orange ring in the center of an otherwise yellow flower. The reverse of the flower is blushed with reddish orange. It seems like it could be cross between the red and the yellow, but maybe it's just a true breeding morph in its own right. The overall effect is still yellow, but the reddish ring adds a nice touch. I'm going to make a special effort to save some of those seeds for next year, separately from the plain yellow ones.
If you can both email me with your mailing addresses, it would save me looking through past emails to find them!

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I don't check this forum very often.
I have exactly 10 seeds left. I decided not to send all of my seeds to Pam and Penny, just most of them. I probably wasn't going to try to plant them anyway, so you're welcome to all, or at least most of them. I might want to save a couple just in case I want to try them as an experiment.
