The seeds are starting to ripen. I have a small number now, and more will be coming in the next few weeks. I love this canna, and it flowers very quickly from seed. It's not more than about 3-4 feet tall for me, including the blooming stalks, which are held close to the plant. The leaves are a bright shade of green (no hint of red), and are slender in shape, not as broad and large as most canna leaves.
The hummingbirds love them, as you can see here....
The flowers are sure pretty. If you happen to have any extras, I would love to try them. I promise to give them a good home here in sunny California. Maybe I have some seeds you would like...
I'll be happy to send some seeds to both of you. I'd like to wait maybe a couple weeks until our kitchen renovation is done and my mom's back from rehab. Things should be calming down by then and I should have more time. I should also have more seeds by then.
If you email me with your addresses, I'll know where to send them, but maybe wait a bit so it doesn't slip too far down into my email.
OK, folks. I've got a bunch of seeds collected, my mom's out of the nursing home rehab, and the kitchen is done. There's still quite a bit of work to be done, but I think I can scrounge up some time to pack up and mail some seeds.
Even though I probably already have your mailing addresses, you'd be doing me a big favor if you could email me with that info. That will save me having to do a search through old emails. So, whenever you get a chance in the next week or so, drop me an email and put "Canna patens" in the subject line so I won't miss it.
Kristin, I also rec'd the seeds you sent. Very quickly, too! I love the photo you used on the front of the package; I'll never have trouble identifying which seeds these are.
Thanks so much... I hope mine come out as pretty as the one in your photo.

First let me say congratulations on the picture of the day! That Canna really is gorgeous! I don't think I have ever seen a bicolored Canna like that.

Yes, Dan, I still have some--not tons, but enough to share 15-20 seeds with you. That should be plenty to produce several plants. I haven't checked my email in hours, but if you haven't already emailed me, please do so and include your mailing address. Or do I already have it? I can't remember, but email me anyway to make it easy for me.
I collected a few more seeds from them yesterday, and they are still blooming, but I don't know how much longer with all this cold weather we've been having. No frosts yet, but it's getting close.
Kristin
If you still have seeds only AFTER everyone else gets what they need, I would like to try this one. I already have seeds from my orange cannas so it isn't like I need any more cannas but the color is so unusual, I couldn't resist the temptation. Don't cut yourself or others short though, I can always wait until next year.

Hi Kristin...it's really getting to be an 11th hour request, but do you still have a few seeds available to share? I don't think I've seen a pic of this one before & I'd LOVE to add it to my collection. I really get a kick out of growing cannas from seeds. Let me know - I'll be happy to send you postage....thanks!

Kristin, after receiving my seeds from you, I did as you described on another post, rubbing down with sandpaper and now some of my seedling are over 2" tall after only 2 weeks. I only did this with half of those you sent, just in case it didn't work. Now, the other half have sprouted as well, and will be transplanted today.
I have lots of other Canna indica plants, but usually just allow the seeds to grow 'wherever they fall' so have no idea how long they usually take to germinate, here.

Hi Kristin, I know this is extremely late, but would you happen to have just a few seeds left to share? Even if you only have 5 seeds or so left to share I would be interested. If you dont have any left to share I understand. If you do, I would gladly send a SASE.
Thanks for your consideration.

Folks, I haven't been on the forum much, especially not checking the seed/plant exchange, so sorry I missed responding.
David, I got your email and I have your seeds packed up, but I need a mailing address. Let me know and I'll send them off right away. Thanks for the wake up call, and sorry I wasn't paying attention.
Patricia, thanks so much for the photo! Your peach Canna indica seeds are soaking in water right now and all are showing signs of sprouting. I'll be potting them up in the next few days.
Patrick, I'd be happy to send you some of the Canna patens seeds. I don't think I ever saw your post from back in December--or did I? I honestly can't remember and my world has turned topsy turvy of late, so it's hard to remember anything. If you still need them, please email me and send me your address, and I'll get them out right away.
No need for any SASE's from anyone. No one has insisted on them from me, and I figure what goes around comes around. Thanks for offering, though!

I'll take some seeds, too, if you have any left. Thanks.
Michelle, email me your mailing address, and I'll get some out to you right away. My goodness, these seeds are popular this season! Here's hoping everyone has good luck with them. I just soaked 20 seeds, and 19 out of the twenty are sprouting, so the viability seems to be very good.
Kristin and all,
All of my seeds were up within about 2 weeks. They are about 6 inches tall now and I really need to get them all repotted into their own little pots

I also would appreciate some of your Canna patens seeds. Although I have more seeds that I could ever plant, I'd like to try these. Thank you for sharing.
Here's a question I wrestle with every season, it comes under the category of I can't remember sh_t. After I soak the canna seeds, do I put the white root facing down into the soil or facing up to the top of the soil. Please say down because they are already potted...
You got it right, Pam. That little white nubbin is the root, so it should point downward. The leaves come later after the root develops. My cannas are still not up and I'm starting to get impatient. I waited until they got the little white sprout before I potted them, but they're still taking forever. Hmmm. Maybe I'm the one who planted them upside down!
