My children's medical care was also dismissed, ignored, manipulated according to the caseworker's whim.
When my children were taken, my son was due to see a specialist to be screened for a hereditary disorder, they cancelled the appointment and ignored my insistance that it be looked into. They also refused to screen him for low blood sugar, though it is indicated as another hereditary issue in my family and he was displaying symptoms.
They instead wanted to drug him, keep him on ritalin, prozac, etc....all to further the the case. My son was so debilitated when I was finally able to get him away from these monsters, that he is still recovering mentally and emotionally, still unable to function in school.
He's afraid to go to school, because the memory of sitting in class one moment, and kicking, screaming and clawing at the walls while being 'kidnapped' from 1st grade still haunts him. He suffers from PTSD as a result of the abduction, resulting on the physical need to vomit upon entry to school grounds, and intense pain.
This was followed by years of abuse by the foster home, years of drugs at the case worker's insistance, years of medical neglect.
The best advice I was ever given was:
1. Document everything
2. Don't be afraid to make it public. (they hate that. This is what cost our case worker her job, and what may be the basis of a law suit against the state.)
3. Retrieve records from the dr's, therapists, schools and hospitals they use while they "care" for your children.
4. Check their sources and be prepared to hear something you don't want to hear, but know that at some point you will probably find a discrepancy.
5. Even a public defender can work for you if you are willing to work for you
6. Make ALLOT of noise. .
7. Don't give them any bullets. They don't need to know anything you don't want them too, and they're quite skilled at making even the most benign things seem evil.
