Lakers take dead aim at ending Essex title run

The Wallaceburg Lakers hockey team wants to put a stop to the Essex 73s' dynasty.
Part of the reason for the 73's dominance is a veteran lineup with many players having Junior B experience.
The Lakers are taking a page from Essex's playbook and announced the signings of four players with significant Junior B experience during the Laker's annual golf tournament held at Baldoon Golf Club on Saturday.
Players signing up to play for Wallaceburg next season include Tyler Lewis, Matt Berglund, Norm Leger and Ryan Lounsbury. All, except for Lewis, are former Lakers.
"I think you have to model your franchise after Essex. ?Essex has been the team to beat for (a long time). We want to take a run at them and take a run at an OHA crown," said Laker general manager Kevin Hood.
All four are not just fringe Junior B players. Lewis and Berglund were big cogs in leading the Sarnia Legionnaires to the Greater Ontario Hockey League Western Conference title this spring, Lewis as a sniper and physical presence and Berglund as the number one goalie.
Lewis has three years of Junior B experience, while Berglund has two.
Berglund said he came back to Wallaceburg because it's a good opportunity and a good organization.
"Now that I'm 20 years old, different things are important to me, things like school and work. Playing here will still give me the opportunity to play competitive hockey and give myself a chance to win a championship, and still do those things," Berglund said.
Lewis is friends with a lot of the players on the Lakers. "I just want to come down here and win a championship and I always wanted to be coached by Mark (Davis)," Lewis said.
The 20 year old Lewis said he's sick and tired of seeing Essex winning year after year.
"That's another reason I came back. ?I hope to give them a run for their money."
Leger and Lounsbury played for Lambton Shores last season. Leger was second in team scoring, while Lounsbury was eighth, but missed a large chunk of the season due to injuries. Lounsbury, a Point Edward resident, goes to school nearby at the University of Guelph Ridgetown campus.
Essex, which has won the Great Lakes Junior C hockey league for the past five years, are also the defending Ontario Junior C champions. Through the regular season and league playoffs last season they only lost two games while winning 47.
Hood said they are still looking at the possibility of bringing in more players.
"We may bring in some more guys that will surprise some people

ah man you gotta be right...
considering essex won 19 regular season, regulation games anywhere but their own rink,
and the all ontario championship they won, in another rink, i don't think they're gonna be too discouraged with a new ice pad.

I disagree with you.Essex knew every nook and cranny of the old barn. But now they have to get use to the new ones at the new rink. It dont matter anyway,Wallaceburg is gonna win the league!!

Also someone should tell Mr. Davis that he should talk to the Jr. B teams that those players belong to before going around assuming that they will be able to play there.

Mark Davis is the biggest disgrace to hockey. He is a liar, a cheater, and a theif. He will use Wallaceburg yet again then dump them so fast with so much dept again and rack up bills all around town.. I hate to say it but this time I don't think they will be able to dig them selves out.
