The more I watch junior hockey games the more I see the real problem.... The refs are absolutely terrible. Why is it that they never call a penalty on the guy that starts **** right off the bat. They always call it on the second guy. Start calling the rules as they are intended. You want to clean up the game, make the calls on the first guy. All the extra bull will dissapear. No more free shots....

Hogwash???? Do you watch games? All the crap that goes uncalled. make the calls... the crap stops. Last night in the BR game the comets were allowed one free shot at any Br player after the whistle. The only playes getting called were the Br guys for protecting themselves. Power plays were 16 to 7 for the comets and they were by far the team giving more cheap shots.

Not making excuses for BR. Yes they lost. yes they have been playing terribly. My comment is that the refs should be calling the crap after the whistle. Call the first guy that takes a shot, not the retaliation. It does have a huge effect on the game by the way.... "power plays" if you don't know what I am talking about. Figured I had to spell it out for you since you think that is has no effect. And it helps to clean up the game.

no **** pal, but how on earth does one punch after the whistle mean br lost?
it doesn't. what goes on after the whistle has next to no bearing on the outcome of the game unless someone gets injured or kicked out.
so, don't try to act all i-n-t-e-l-l-i-g-e-n-t when you missed the entire point of the comment.
ps. intelligent is another word for smart

Reuben.... obviously you really don't get the point that you comment was completely wrong. The stuff that happens after the whistle does and always has affected the outcome of a game. A good percentage of the penalties are called from this type of thing. My comment was to call the first guy that takes the shot, not the retaliation. But your logic is that you are entitled to hit someone after the play has stopped. If a guy wants to hit someone, try doing it during play when the other guy is expecting it. And then we can see him get his ass kicked because he won't have 4 other team mates standing around him protect him from his cheap shot tactics.

jbcm,
the "problem" with the reffing and the lack of calls is that they are frequently out of position or in front of what is taking place to see what is clearly visible to the many in the stands. Stuff takes place away from the play and often behind it. Refs don't see the inital infraction but do have a tendency to see the retaliation. So here's the rub, if you don't want to get caught and serve time in the bin then don't retaliate because you know the ref will likely see you and not the player who did the initial wrong. It's not always about the reffing being bad, sometimes it's just stupid play and actions by players.
