A few steps backwards.........

What a shame of a stretch of games. Lack of effort. Get a lead and quit. The only well played game by this team was saturdays game. I am discusted by their play this week. I was scared when they got the 3 goal lead in seattle, worried that they would lose.

And chet, needs to get his head back in the game.

All this will pass, but a horrible horrible week for the team.

Scott
ps, despite missing players this week was unacceptable.

was at the game...

Birds put focus on taking it to the body and finishing all checks for the final two periods. Ams didn't respond well and weren't willing to take a hit to make a play.

Just pathetic!!!!

January 18 2009, 8:39 PM

I mean come on...how do you blow that big of a lead? I know they are just kids, I know it was 5 games in 6 nights, I know we are down two d-men...but COME ON! I'm sure that they are feeling the pain in more than one way...I know they know they can do better. Let's see 'em do it now...come on boys...pull it together and GET HEALTHY!

I disagree

January 18 2009, 8:56 PM

with everyone. Yeah it was 5 games in 6 nights. But they had to go with 5 D for the better part of the last two games. Add in the fact Seattle didn't have to really "travel" more than 30 mile for their 3 in 3. They will have some time to heal this week and get back at it next weekend. Give 'em the benefit of the doubt.

Tough Loss

January 18 2009, 9:05 PM

Sure it was a tough loss, but I will give the kids the benefit of credit for getting 5 points on the week. Hey it's a long season, this was a brutal week, (note to Bob- don't schedule this trip next year). No excuses, Seattle deserved the win. The boys are playing 5 D men last 2 games, and top center has not played for a few weeks with them. Rough stretches are part of the Dub for most teams, it is the teams that come back from it that see success. Just got to get home, get some rest and heal up. Bad games happen in a long season, so let it go and look forward to the rest of the season!

long trip

January 19 2009, 4:00 AM

This trip for them was one period to long. The had nothing left in the 3rd period tonight in Kent. You could tell the were digging deep 2nd half of that 2nd period even with the super short shifts. I knew it was going to be a rough 3rd, hoping chet could keep us in it. But wow a 19-4 shot advantage. And when you cant get to the lose pucks, really bad things happen. Tough week, but its over. Stop freaking out, a bunch of teenage boys just traveled around western North America, 5 games in 6 days in 5 cities? We got to get real and understand thats alot of bus miles, you try it. They will bounce back. No excuses but, i wan to see Spokane try that? Notch that one up to the schedule makers, thanks WHL.

I agree

The boys are exhausted, I actually think they did well all things considered. 5 of 10 points, two one goal losses and one bad period in Seattle. On the brightside, Stoklasa finally looks like he woke up from a season long bad dream, on the downside Pickard needs to get over the "I'm not going to be here next year anyways" attitude and start playing like he cares. You would think that after watching Tokarski eat his lunch again and again he might be a little more hungry!

Pickard

January 19 2009, 10:23 AM

Pickard has not looked all that great.......... or brings no added confidence to the team right now.

I say sit him, stick Marty in there see if that wakes him up!!.

Re: Pickard

Sitting right behind the bench last night I'd say that you're completly wrong about Pickard. In fact, he was the only kid on that bench that looked really upset and he seemed to only be disappointed in himself. He made some brilliant saves that could have easily put Seattle into double digits. Sure, he was off of his game a little last night but apparently everyone was. Considering how tired they are they played a great 1st period. It was almost like the gas light was on in the 2nd and then they were empty by the time the 3rd period rolled around. They just need to get some rest and come out ready for the weekend!

Give them a freakin' break.

January 19 2009, 5:50 AM

Even teenage boys in the best of shape get tired once in awhile. Geez, this schedule was brutal and missing the two best defense men does them no favors. Wasn't it obvious that they simply ran out of gas in the last half of the game? That is to be expected when you play 5 games in 6 nights, most against very good teams. I would expect the same from an NHL team.

your comments

January 19 2009, 6:19 PM

Scott,it's obvious by your comments, the only 5 games in 6 days (without travel) you have ever played in a row is on your PS3. Quite frankly, your posts are more disgusting than they could ever play.

agreed

January 19 2009, 7:47 PM

anybody who saw the game saw a team in the third period who couldn't get to a loose puck to save their lives.

Playing with 5 D just plain sucks. I said at the deadline that this stretch with 6 healthy D was a gamble, and we paid the price. Hopefully the injured D-men come back soon because that will make a huge difference. Spokane gave all they had Saturday and they aren't any better than us this year. Chet will turn it on when it really counts and Bob's comments on Seattle radio between the 2nd and 3rd periods last night spoke volumes as to why no moves were made.... they don't want to go for a one year run with no guarantees when they know they have a good young team that could be scary good in 1-2 years. Chalk it up to the schedule and injuries, although only having 6 healthy D to start with was pretty dumb in my opinion. But I don't get paid to make hockey decisions.

By the way, Chiliwack won in Calgary last night. Go figure huh.

What I don't understand is

January 19 2009, 11:15 PM

Given all the miles that the boys put on why did the AMS agree to have the game on Sunday? They could have held it on Monday or Wednesday if Seattle would agreed. Very tough trip over the past week. Rest up and dust off...

Tough Week All Around

January 20 2009, 7:48 AM

Looking at your roster there is quite a few players from Manitoba, Winnipeg in particular. High level hockey is a small world in most cities. Many of these kids may have been dealing with some tough emotions this week as well, ie. Everett player Jordan Mistelbacher's death.

Thank you for you well thought out post. I have high expectations and regardless of any reason, I expect those expectations to be met. I understand that they will not always be met, but it doesnt change them.

If my expectations were to change by circumstance, then well, wouldnt those who fall under my expectations modify what they thought I was expecting?

That doesn't change my ability to be understanding........

So..... Once again, thanks to you for the comment.

I am perfectly okay with anyone disagreing with me, or making a claim nagainst my statement or argument. But, c'mon, no need to talk like a child.

I am a supporter of this team, both on here, but also in spreading the word to people who might attend the games and as a season ticket holder.

So please don't feel the need to be a re-tard with your keyboard.

I appreciate this board and when people are civil on here.
