60 Players (35 forwards, 25 defense) and 24 goalies invited if i'm not mistaken. Players partake in on ice and off ice fitness testing. Results sent to all the OHL teams. Sponsored by under armour. Interviews are conducted with some of the top players. Last year many of the kids that were interviewed at the combine went in the top 3 rounds of the draft. The OHL Combine is an invite only event. Last year was the first year it started at the mastercard centre and there many top players who did not attend. Don't worry too much if your kid isn't invited. Just make sure he is ready for training camp after the draft.

This post above makes it sounds like parents are more concerned about their kids success than their kids are.

Sign of the times.

Question - of the 60 skaters and 24 goalies, are these suppose to be the best 60 skaters and 24 goalies as designated by Central Scouting?

Last year there where 2-3 head scratchers and two kids where where not drafted. That said, generally, its the top players as designated by the OHL

The top kids are invited. Doesn't mean they all choose to attend.

I do not understand why a player would choose not to go?
I realize it is only the second year, but it seems to me that you would attend.
Could someone attempt to explain the logic here.

No team is not going to pick a top player because he didnt go to the combine. For most of the top kids, they have already proved themselves.

Maybe they are injured or just getting back from injury and not 100%.

So if the information is unimportant, why have it?

... and I do not buy they need the $10,000, because after cost they will not net very much. I think there is more to it than that.

Obviously inviting 24 goalies tells you something, that they are looking at the goalies.

"So if the information is unimportant, why have it?"

that's a very poor perspective. the combine provides scouts, coaches and GM's insight into the player's skills and conditioning.

the top 20 players will still go high, however conditioning may jockey some around. the jockeying of positions is more prevalent in the next group of top players.

your statement can be said of the NHL combine too. Taylor Hall participated in only 10% of the activities last year, yet went first overall. meanwhile Charlie Coyle and Stephen Johns were beasts across multiple tests and moved up due to their stellar results.

My son went last year ....Remember anytime you get to skate and shoot in front of scouts etc is an opportunity! Regardless of whether you pay or not!

I am pretty sure everyone invited will attend. Unless injured there is no reason not to attend. Of course it is the top 60 invited. Does anyone really think it would be any different. It's 4 on 4 with no checking. I am sure the scouts want to see how the top players play against the top players. They also want to see how the good players from poor teams will look when surrounded with better talent. That will be the interesting part!

If someone says they chose not to attend - chances are they were not even invited. Why wouldn't a kid/family take every opportunity given them to learn, improve, show their talent. If a kid or parent says they are not participating because they have already proven themselves.......that attitude would make them slip, even if slightly, down the 'list'

It was a great weekend last year. If someone is saying anything other than that they are still mad they didn't go last year. Work hard boys!!!!
