U17 Grimsby Camp

Here's some of the number of players from each SCTA team

16 Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs - the whole frickin team?
11 Niagara Falls Canucks - didn't know they had that many good players
13 St Catharines Falcons
9 Welland Tigers - No DiFruscia?

Must be a number of "fillers" to ice four teams

- we spend 200-300 on hockey sticks and 50 /hr for some small group lessons a few times a year , at least.
Its a reasonable price for what it offers and it is me as a parent that is picking up the tab with no expectations beyond the weekend.
Our choice, make your own

exactly.

Just because some are not going for whatever reason - not selected - money issues - forgot to apply. Whatever the reason. Why take out your frustration on others?

1 practice + 3 full games for $200 is not much at all - peanuts really. Also, hockey is expensive and it's a business. Either except this fact or move on.

If your complainging about a measly $200 then I really question your motives. As last poster said we routinley spend that much on 1 stick - ONE stick. And we all know how much we've spent the last year alone on composite sticks.

As much as an experience it might have been my kid has no chance of making the U17 team plus with tryouts next week I'm hockeyed out and so will be my kid, he's looking forward to hanging up his skates for a few months.

My son made it to the Guelph camp. Had a good time and realized there was a lot of talent out there. Players from the Guelph camp who moved on were all 1st and 2nd rounders except for two or three players. Basically it's pre-picked so go in knowing that this will most likely be the case. Rob Kitamura prances around and talks to all the scouts and parents that he knows. U17 staff tell the kids at the start that they all have a shot to move on and there is no favortism etc.... One coach asked all his players in the dressing room what round did you get drafted in and to which team. The coaches set the tone from the start. Good luck to those who get there and make the most of it.

First kids to advance will be the players that were on Under 16 Team Ontario, no doubt some of them should not have been chosen yet they will be the first players to get the nod.

Not sure how many players will be selected in total, in regards to going to Thunder Bay in total, I presume in the neighbourhood of 30 in total from all leagues.

Enjoy the camp and experience boys.
Make sure to explain to your kids though that if you're not in the top 3 rounds of the OHL draft, you are not making the U17 team. If they were real honest about this, they would wait till after the draft to select players to the camp so that real scouts could do the upfront work for them.
Me thinks, the OMHA has found a good way to raise some coin.
I was reviewing some of the lists and I really don't believe they put a lot of effort into who was selected. Not all, but a few questionables. I know one kid from our team didn't see the ice in the 3rd period of any playoff games and one goalie who stunk out the joint.
My kid understands this and I hope he has fun there.

7:23, while it is reasonable to expect that the 22 players selected for this team to be among the top 60 players chosen in the draft, every year there's been a few players named to the team who were drafted beyond the 3rd round.

Very good choice for any player who can make this happen. Another choice is the USHL. Well financed teams, solid fan base and great facilities. Players are 16 to 21 years old. Run a schedule like the OHL; weekend games, 65 to 80 total. Many of the top US players take this route. You do not burn your NCAA card.

You can debate the quality of the development vs. the OHL all day long but I think the depends on where you end up in the OHL or the USHL. The USHL has fewer issues and only 16 team to manage. They set a very high standard for team finances, education and accountability for their players.

No situation is perfect but the USHL is a solid option for players to consider.

Re: OMHA Under 17

"Players are 16 to 21 years old."
- the league allows 15 year olds to play. Anthony DeAngelo was only 14 when he made his team.

"You can debate the quality of the development vs. the OHL all day long but I think the depends on where you end up in the OHL or the USHL."
- no doubt you can, however it's a moot point that this league is quite inferior to the CHL. simply compare the NHL draft numbers or look at the current NHL Central Scouting numbers.

"The USHL has fewer issues and only 16 team to manage. They set a very high standard for team finances, education and accountability for their players."
- bullshit. the bus travel in this league is brutal. and there are players in this league have been paid to play. others receive a very generous "gas allowance". it's typical NCAA eligibility rule hypocrissy.

"No situation is perfect but the USHL is a solid option for players to consider."
- what sales puffery and shameless promotion!

9:10 is such an angry guy. Chill out. The USHL is a good league that leaves the door open for OHL or NCAA. So the OHL has more guys in the NHL Great. The OHL is a very good league. As far as AD goes, thats the same as Ekblad getting his status in the OHL draft this year. Not common. The statement about 16 to 21 represented the majority. Next time I'll be specific so you don"t blow a casket. Yes, some additional travel in required with certain teams just like the OHL. SSM is not around the corner.

Now go take a valium.

the bus trips are all like trips to the Soo, some even farther.

where did Nick Ebert come from & how old was he? what about Adam Erne? what about Ian McCoshen? and yes DeAgelo was only 14 when he made the USHL! it's apparent you know very little about what you're talking about.

look who's being defensive and quite hostile. truth hurts doesn't it? and you can keep your medical advice to yourself as you'll need heavy sedation after this.

The brampton kid (gold #6) mentioned is actually big and smart. Does he scare players yes but he's also skilled and plays a very smart game. He's listed at 6'1" 218 on the camp roster so yes 6'1" and 218 is going to be slower then 5'8" and 150.

I saw him at the camp and boy can he move and hit.

Yah, he's big and can hit, but it's pretty hard to play defence when your in the other teams end trying to score!

Not much hitting at the Brampton camp but wow, gold 6 - he was really throwing his weight around.

Heh Mom, enough already. He wasn't the only one throwing the body, and did it work for him, did he move on? No because he has to learn to play in both ends of the ice.

I'm not his mom or dad - why is it everytime someone posts on here it's automatically assumed its the parents ? That kid has been on the radar for sometime and how do you know he did not make it ? the results have not been posted.

8:14/7:55 is just yanking your chain. it's the N54 "thanks dad" and "angry dad" jab game. just ignore it.

Well what do you want to know. Did he move on, or are you bitter that he didn't? Knocking bodies isn't everything.
