| Kids should think to themselves if their daddies paid any extras along the way to get to where they are today? False hopes next year. Shame on you parents for doing this to your children. |

Sounds like your kid didn't get there. He must not have enough talent and you don't have enough money. |

Who cares? If it works then the end justifies the means doesn't it?
I own my own company and give the team about a $ 5000 to $ 7000 a year for "sponsorship". I don't care what the coach does with it...I just know my kid's on the team. Maybe the first line doesn't pay for the year I don't care.
Money talks...my kid's talent will develop while yours doesn't.
End of story... |

I work for an hourly wage, struggle to pay the bills every month,
and my son plays for a top AAA team because his DESIRE is
stronger than most. |

9:26 your kids on the team because of the so called sponsorship you give no other reason. END OF STORY! |

10:27 - That's exactly my point...hockey is not a fair just like life. Your kid might even be better than mine but you know what? The coach see's things differently when I remind him who's picking up the tab, (I buy all the shirts / track suits for the team as well).
It's amazing what a great equalizer money is... |

Eventually though, the money man's kid faces the same reality all the rest do, can't play? See ya.
Trust it was worth it.
Terrible life lesson taught to your child. Didn't get it on merit, but on the back of daddy's favours. What happens dad when he has to stand on his own two feet? He'll fall down as he has not got the skills to compete. Well done. |

Shame on you if you have to bribe the coach, guess you don't have faith in your own child. NICE

I'm 9:26 & 10:47 or, as you call me, (money man).
I was also a coach once and this type of thing happens far more than any of you may want to admit or believe. Most parents in hockey are competitive and it comes out around "commitment" and tryout time. I'd say about 40% of the parents try to gain an advantage through some sort of inducement. Be it money / favours whatever...and it get's worse the higher up you go in hockey.
And my kid is not aware I'm doing this either. So he actually believes that he is making it on his own, which is great for his self-confidence.
So, as a former coach, I can say, with confidence, that about 25% of the kids that you see on the ice, are there because of this type of bartering.
But spare me your moral outrage...this is the way things are in hockey.

I agree but if the kid is shit no amount of bartering will help |

You are delusional if your think your kid doesn't know what you do. My kid is a great player, very talented and yes he was drafted. He was drafted in the late rounds but I know without a doubt that if we had money or favours to offer, he would have been top 5 rounds.
If you think kids are not aware of the political crap that goes with hockey, you are not giving them enough credit. Kids see it. I get that it is the way life works sometimes and maybe if we had the resources to 'bribe' our kids way to the top, maybe I'd feel differently. As for now, we are proud ofour son for his dedication and his accomplishments and he has done it on his own merit. |

stats padding in minor hockey is atrocious.
unfortunately it continues right on in to T2 for owner's/manager's/coach's kids.
it's sad but true that there is a dark under belly of hockey run by the almighty $
that being said the majority still make it on talent. |

the fact is, getting drafted means little. plenty of kids that get drafted dont amount to squat. the politics really dont begin until a kid is drafted. then it all goes up many levels. |

No joke, on Red-Wings web-site signed for next year. Go figure even Michigan can be influenced by $$$$$$. Will live on ice with new resume in place. The other boy was given many phamtom points over last two years. Pad the stats to make them look good. St. Mikes also a place to keep your son away from, players who do not belong even at this level are being recruited by top named div. 1 schools. Pay to play is the way this league will survive untill the owners son is out of system. Teams are folding as the funding disappears. Do your homework with finding a spot that your son does not compete for ice-time with the owners kid! |

All kinds of rich daddies do this, they make a donation to the school which in turn is then offered back as a scholarship, if you think it doesn't happen your dreaming. |

unfortunately T2 is daddy's league that is corrupt beyond reproach. I admire the kids that make T2 without "sponsorship" money and congratulate the few that scrape their way up to higher levels of hockey in spite of the bullshit.
many kids and their parents are getting conned to pay for a dream that they won't realize. they'll watch wide eyed as someone less talented connected to the owner, manager, coach, sponsor bypasses them. this crooked dirty league is undeserving of these kids. very sad. |

Funny thing is father thinks both boys are going to the show, only if he buys part of the team. Both are fine young men but with daddys influence no chance. Tryed to close down Tigerpaws site with law suit action. Imagine sueing NHL fans who have a voice and strong opinions with what they watch! |

No issues with Zach Hyman getting the scholly. The kid is talented, although the cost was other players not getting premium development ice time along the way that Zach did. Hey c'est la vie and the kid has got game now.
However Spencer Hyman would not be on the team if his father was not the owner. The kid is brutal, period. No doubt daddy held Michigan hostage to a 2 for 1 deal. Gotta figure it's a only 1 for 4 scholly for Spencer, but dad still gets to beam proudly that both his boys are stars.
The same goes for the St. Mike's kid. The sales spin the team released is mind boggling:
“Cornell is getting a defenceman with tremendous upside who has yet to scratch the surface of his game and physical maturity. He brings an offensive minded game with the ability to carry the puck with tremendous vision. As an underager, his defensive game was very good. His size and strength isn’t yet close to full maturity. Patrick is an example of perseverance and believing in the slow and steady road to development. It is well deserved recognition for a mature 16 year old who also has strong leadership qualities.”

SH will no doubt be on all key situations next year, not the place to play next year if your kid plays defence. Only see imports playing on defence next year and quitting at Christmas like last year. Best players all wanted out and the Gong Show will be repeated in 11/12. Wellington and Kingston only safe places to play next year for no Daddys influence. |

This is not a draft.
Most kids especially those less talented like this one wait till they are 18, 19, even 20 (for example the Buzzers overage captain Daniel Ciampini just received at the end of the season) to be rewarded with a scholarship.
It's a kickback for hosting the NCAA Summits over the last 2 years and (yes) the kids they've moved to the NCAA. |
