If it would help, I could take pics sometime of what I did. Basically, if you remove the stock speaker and unplug it, you'll see that you can get a connector that will slide into the slot. (I think I took a "standard" spade connector and cut it to make it smaller?) You can always give it a try, and if you can't deal with it, get the speaker harness.
However, for the head-unit, I would recommend having a harness. It will make your life MUCH easier, and those are only about $15. Maybe a lot relatively speaking, but hey, if it makes a cleaner easier install, then I'm all for that.
