Sure you can change the speakers without the harness. I like the fact that when I sell the CRV, I can put the originals back in and just plug them in. I'm sure the next owner will also appreciate the fact that the connector is original. They will probably want to put their own speakers in. I'll probably even throw the harness in with the sale.
As my time is money, in my opinion the harness paid for itself.
