The Japanese/Mongolian connection!

April 2 1999 at 3:46 PM

Sorry I've been so quiet lately (as if anyone noticed! ;) ). Spring Break! Woooo! But I have to share something I just read about, seeing as we have some pretty new forum members who are originally from Japan!

Did you know that the Japanese feel a very strong ethnic connection to the Mongolians? And that they consider themselves as having descended from Mongolians more recently than any other group, including the Chinese? So if you're of Japanese extraction, maybe you ought to feel a bit more sympathy for Those Magnificent Huns! :)

Since Mongolia became independent from the Russians in 1996, the Japanese have been pouring money into the country to help it become more economically stable. Too bad that Japan's economy is such a mess. Bad timing, I guess.

But I just thought that was kind of cool. :)

I have checked my family tree. I don't have any Mongolian ancestery, and other than my father (who looks& acts like Shan-Yu)I have little sympathy for the Huns.If you want to get to know me my name is Yoshi. I am Japanese. I moved to America 2 years ago, and I absolutly love the movie Mulan!!!!!

I goofed! I might have a little Mongolian in watashi, as much as any normal kid. I dont hate mongolians, they're just normal people, It's just that Shan-Yu bugs me.

No, I mean *really* far back! :)

Before recorded history, that is. The Japanese people who are helping the Mongolians believe that their ancestors came over from Mongolia several hundred (possibly longer!) years before the birth of Christ. So, no--Mongolians are not very likely to show up in your family tree. :)

A recent study done by a biologist at the University of Oregon indicates that the native Americans of the U.S. are *also* more closely related to Mongolians (specifically, Mongolians from the Tuvan region of southern Siberia) than to any other known group. This may partly explain the similarity in their shamanistic religious traditions. Beautiful, they are. (Jeez. I sound like Yoda.)

Come on, Yoshi! Give Shan Yu a chance. Find out why he's so ticked off at the Chinese by clicking HERE . You might not look at him the same way again. (There are two sides to every story. Especially a war story!

I give Shan-Yu a chance every day. My father acts like Shan-Yu looks, and even sounds like Shan-yu. My dad hates Mulan. he admires Shan-Yu.
