Felt like this is the most interesting, involved site I've come across. I've had cats since a small child and I'm now 60. I currently have 7; with 6 of them having been rescued. We'd have dozens more, but it's rough to keep up with shots and illnesses. So I no longer let my husband go with me to the vet or the pound. I have to drag myself away from those places as well and often end up giving a few dollars to the place I'm at ( unfortunately, ususally more to the vet by necessity).
Guess we do something correctly - we've had many pets over the years including dogs. We currently have 2 dogs now. A tiny toy Chi and a Slick Haired Terrier - the Chi was given to us by a friend who bred them and the terrier was a rescue.

We try to be responsible pet owners and watch our critters closely. The youngest to pass on us naturally was 18 years old. We had to put one down due to kidney failure, which really broke our hearts as we had vigorously been treating the problem to no avail. I couldn't stand to see her suffer any longer; she was 5.

I like your honest answers. Thank you for having this site to refer to.

Thank you for your kind words! You are doing more than your part to help the animals that share our world. And not only do you have multiple pets, but you watch all of them closely and seek professional help when needed. And the youngest natural death was 18! You are certainly to be commended!

You remind me of myself. I have multiple cats and I too try to wear blinders when I need to go into a shelter or pet store. It is very difficult to look at little faces peering through cage bars.

Thank you again. I'm glad you enjoy the site. My plan is to continue adding to it daily indefinitely. I really enjoy it!
