We just got a new kitten and we love him very much. During the night, though, if we let him sleep in our bedroom, he starts to play in the middle of the night and wake us up. The only way to get more sleep is to close him out of the room. He cries then outside the door and I feel terrible. What should we do?

Oh the joy of having a kitten!! Sounds like you got yourself a rambunctious little fur ball. Cats are nokternal animals. Better put, cats are any time they want kinda animals. Either let her play in your room, or lock her out. Gonna have to do one. Your kitty will get over not being allowed in the bedroom at night and will discover a WHOLE house to explore. And when he/she calms down, you'll have yourself a nice little bed mate! This info is by no means professional, just personal experience. Happy New year!
