For those who have the video and the book you know that Joe taught a “THREE QUARTER” swing but there is a way to get to the full swing without raising the right arm. Unless you load the canon you’ll lift your right arm off of your waist thereby bringing yourself out of the plane of the swing.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Loading the canon is when one gets to position TWO then using the right shoulder to force the left shoulder deeper towards the ball. By doing this the right arm still hugs the waistline and increased power of this swing comes from this shoulder move. One cannot complete this move until they have completely isolated the joints and tendons, etc, of the back and shoulders. You can see in the book and video the GOLF-O-METRICS to loosen up these joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

You will see on the You Tube video where it appears I lift up but when you clearly look at the lower body you will see that my lower body stays low so only my shoulder and back muscles are working in a North and South Action and this will appear to be a lift when it is not because a lift with this swing is lifting the right arm away from the waistline..

You have to be able to move both shoulders in a NORTH & SOUTH position without moving the head. If the head is following the shoulders then the shoulders are not moving the back is. You can stretch each shoulder to their maximum and as you do this you will feel your shoulder pulling the back muscles, tendons and vertebrae all the way to the lower back muscles.

When your head is kept still the shoulders will move all of the necessary working parts of your back using a North and South direction on the spinal cord. Please do this slowly as one can strain these tendons and muscles very easily since they have not been used before.

Summary:  Get to position TWO then slowly move your right shoulder up into the neck area thus forcing the left should deeper towards the ball. The downswing still starts with the right forearm dropping to the right heel. The feeling at impact is that you are hitting deep with the right shoulder. My divots with the short irons are sometimes 1-2 inches deep.
