Beginners have many problems regardless of the type of swing they have so I have to dissect small parts of the swing to teach you. Understand that the golf swing is a circle of learning. A beginner has neither the knowledge or ability to put into place any swing method from the start so you start and then continue to adjust. It is the same with Joe’s swing;

This little Golf-O-Metric will help you understand how a good golfer hits through the ball.

  • First sit in a chair that has arms on it so your elbows and arms stay about chest high.
  • Put both hands together as if you were praying, or as an Asian or Hindu Monk would have as they would greet you. Your hands are chest high and both arms are close to or touching the body just below the chest cavity.
  • Without moving the arms push the right hand to the left and watch the right hand straighten and the left hand break to the left side. Just keep doing this for 10 or more times. This is the error that every beginner has which is the wrists breaking forward before impact. It will feel like you’re slapping the ball and you’ll never be able to control this move. It will only cause frustration.
  • Now without moving the arms fold your right wrist back so now it is cocked and the left hand is straight. This move is the correct move and one of the three moves necessary to seal the wrist. Do this 10 times but never go past center just keep cocking the right wrist.
  • With the right wrist cocked push your right arm out to the left using the right elbow to straighten the right arm. This is the correct move on the down swing where the wrists are sealed and the right arm straightens into the ball and ground at impact. Do this 20 times a day from your chair. Once you are comfortable then do the same with the hands pointing down at the ball. Just fold the right wrist in or back  and extend the right arm from the right elbow into the ground.
  • After you have done this for a while and have the feeling of the sealed wrists and right arm and elbow then separate your hands and rotate each hand 45 degrees in and take your grip. You can see the grip on my You Tube video and it is explained on the forum and on one of the previewed pages of Joe’s book on my website.
  • There are two major causes of error in the swing. Body movement and Wrist break. This lesson will help you with the wrist break.
