Some people have commented that I rotate much like everyone else. This, of course is false but all swings have rotation in them - yes - even the Joe Norwood Golf Swing.
- The shoulders follow the arms and therefore rotate to the position of the right hip placement at 7:30.
- The shoulder rotates back to square as long as the right hip stays at 7:30 on the downswing.
- At impact the right hip has not rotated as with all these other swings you see but the right hip does follow the arms and slightly rotates immediately after impact.
- This is quite visible in the picture below as you can see the ball is already in flight and my right arm is starting to its follow through position while the right side of the hip remains behind and follows.
- This is most difficult to see when watching the swing in regular speed.
- If the right hip leads or travels with the arms during impact then the shoulders will rotate beyond square (square meaning pointing to the target).
- The easiest way to feel this position is to turn your right hip as far back as it will go to the right and then try to turn the shoulders beyond square. It can't be done unless the right hip releases.
- This is why there is so much error in golf because the right hip releases thus allowing both the shoulders and the hips to rotate at the same time and the side effect of this is that the arms decelerate instead of accelerate. The modern swings focus on shoulder and hip turn whereas this great swing from Scotland focuses on arm speed to propel the ball.
- Joe told me many times that the modern swings have over 40 movements in them. He counted them - I trusted in his count. His swing is designed to remove over 80% of these moves. The fact remains that less is easier to control than more therefore more moves equal less control and fewer moves equal greater control. Greater control equals more consistent shots therefore a swing with few moves must be more consistent than a swing with 40 moves.
