Great to see you here. I must confess I often forget to check this public forum for any new posts because most seem to prefer to write at the private forum. It must be confusing when you first explore the site ..the private forum has a photo of that amazing castle in Europe so you know which forum you are in, and I will add a clarification about this forum still being open (just usually inactive!) to the forums page asap.
I understand the heart wrench of "losing a kid" to the streets or to perps in other ways. Sometimes I feel so powerless and it's hard to remember that the kid's inner resources helped them survive long before they ever met me, and they are now hopefully stronger to use those resources whenever they need them most. Sometimes i feel anything but philosophically optimistic. I would love to talk with you about anger management with kids who are marginalised / outside mainstream society. I used to use CBT much moreso than during the last few years, but always suspected that it was essentially their experience of a healing relationship that made the essential difference (even when working within the constraints of a school system). The more I have worked on my own deep stuff, the more I've found myself "freed-up" to work more deeply with the orginal source/s of my clients' anger, rather than relying on teaching cognitive behavioural strategies for managing that anger. (I do think both are often needed though and for some clients can be woven together) Also the CBT stuff has better superficial face validity (it is easier for others to immediately see it's relevance to anger management I think).
Well I have surprised myself by rambling on (must sense you are a good listener:)
Any thoughts from you forangel or from anyone else out there?
