Response to earth-rotation

The tugging and pulling of the Moon is slowing the Earth's rotation down as it moves further from us.

I've read (can't find my source) the Moon is moving away from the Earth at a rate of 2 inches per year and the Earth's rotational speed is decreasing by 0.15 seconds per century. The Earth and the Moon will eventually engage in a synchronous orbit (the Moon will orbit the Earth in a day) when an Earth day is 43 hours long.

This will put the Moon 14.4 miles further away from us and take 456,000 years.
