IMO, the G series are the cat's meow (how old is that guy?) in the historic line up in recent years. When the larger crown guards were added to the painted dials you had the nicest historic updating to the line thus far.

Tritium was no longer an option and the Panerai name was proudly displayed, possibly to excess, on the movement's engraving.

Not a transition in the historic line but an update with a solid acknowledgement to the past. I have owned and now miss a 111, 112 and 115 G series for just these subtle nuances.
