312 resales

I have been planning on purchasing a 312 but have noticed lately on TRF and Paneristi a lot of resales from owners who state they have owned the watch for couple of weeks to a couple of months and are selling the watch. I am a bit concerned about that because its not clear why they are reselling but I find it very unusual for such a quick flip. I've worn the watch and its big but not for a PAM. I would appreciate any feedback from current or previous owners who sold or are planning to keep the watch.

Thanks.

312 resales

September 23 2009, 12:37 AM

I recently purchased a Pam 312 and I love it. The previous owner bought it and thought it was too big. I think alot of people purchase and was looking to flip the watch for a gain. Gonna keep this watch.

Cheers,

ken

My theory...

September 23 2009, 3:39 PM

I also recently purchased a 312 and I love it as well. The in-house movement has been spot-on and I love the looks and design. I have a slender wrist and I don't feel as though it is too big. If I had and could wear a fiddy or a 217, then I probably wouldn't purchase a 312, but because the 47mm case size is too large to be comfortable for me (the lugs extend beyond my wrist), I'm more than happy with the 312.

As for the number of resales, I agree that many are probably looking to flip for a small gain, but I think that there are other motivations. The thing with Panerai is that, at least in my experience, the easiest way to get priority from an AD for special edition pieces is to make several purchases throughout the year. For some, it might mean buying from an AD and selling on the secondary market to make a small gain or break even in order to stay on the ADs radar for the special editions. Just my $.02.

I bought and sold mine....

September 23 2009, 5:11 PM

I bought a 312 for 6950 when it was first pretty new, around May / June ish time frame. At the time the watch was selling for a bit more than retail and or very close to retail. I found a local guy selling it for 6950 and hoped on the deal a the time. I always wanted a 233 but the price tag was a bit too much for me to swallow at the time. After owning the 312 I really loved the face and the bulk of the watch and considering how thick it is, it actually fit my wrist really well since the lugs wrap around more than other luminors and provides a nice comfortable fit. Now the reason I traded it is because at 6950, it is very close to retail, 7400 I believe, and felt that in a year the watch will be down to 6000, and I was only about a 1.5k difference from my dream watch the 233... I decided to move the 312 since it was a bit too close to retail and wanted to snag the 233 while I had the chance... that was my reasoning behind the sale and I think other people here have also noticed that...

As of now there is no market for flipping these 312 as all the prices now are around 6500, 900 below retail and no tax... You also dont have to wait for the AD any longer to get these watches...

also consider 233

September 24 2009, 12:51 AM

I was considering a 233 as well but noticed that there were some issues with the watch and Panerai taking too long to make the repairs for watches sent in. Does anyone know if these issues have been resolved?

Re: also consider 233

Get the 233, you will LOVE it. I actually had a problem with mine... The problem occuring on most of the 233s is that the dial was mis printed and the PR does not align 100 percent properly on the Dial. I returned mine for that reason they fixed it under warranty.. Cool thing is that even if I was out of warranty they still would have fixed it since it was a manufacturing defect.

I'm selling mine...

because I need to fund for a grail piece that's available. I love the 312, but I can always buy it later down the road. The grail piece is a SE, so it's not readily available.

Personally I think it was over hyped..

People were expecting a 233 and its just not. In saying that though, I actually really don't mind the watch.

I had the 312, 320, 321 and 305 sitting in front of me recently, and while I thought the 321 looked best, the 312 was very nice.
