hey laylah, i am glad you want to learn my language, maay maay.
as you know the somali language was only written in 1970s and barre obviously forgot to take into account that not all somalis spoke one language, he marginalised the maay people and their language. but if you want to learn it, it is not that hard. firstly, start by conversing with maay people just tell them you really want to learn the language and they'll be happy to teach you. be inquisitive, ask a lot of questions, ask how to introduce yourself. listen to maay news, songs. read maay material and so on... as i said maay language was not documented as well as mahaatiri but your own initiative should get you what you want.

just as the mahaatiri people have different accents so are the maays. some maay people speak differently than others because they have migrated from ethopia and kenya, tanzania from a long time ago and so don't worry about accents. the maay people took all the rejects from other tribes, they never turned anyone else aside that is why there is so many variations. as maay people we have oromo, tanzanians=mishunguli, boron, dabare, gare, zairians, gibil cad, all these people are foriegners at once upon a time.
