Re: best way to learn?

To answer you questions I will need some background like. Are you Somali? Do you often talk to Mai speakers? Where are you? Is there big mai speaking communities where you live? Are you after Phrases or?

But I will give some general opinions anyway.

Even though big portion of Somalis speaks Mai, the language have hardly developed at all, due to the fact the existing government was denying the entire existence of the language.

There are no books written in Mai neither is there newspapers or websites that communicate purely in Mai with there Audiences for that matter.

So, there is very shocking shortage of resources for some one trying to learn the language. Nevertheless the same rules of learning a new language apply.

Talking
Listening
Maybe reading and writing as well.

If you know someone that speaks it try to practise the language with him.
Log on to Paltalk (a voice and video chatting website) where you can meet Mai speaking Rooms that you can listen or try to speak.

You can also visit www.baidoa.com for mai alphabet, News and interviews conducted in mai.

Do no hesitate to contact me if you have farther questions or if you need anything clarified.
