I regularly scour my local Craigs list ads for watches and rarely if ever do I find anything decent and if I do........ it's overpriced and worth crap!
2 days ago I finally took a chance and got lucky!
This was the pic seller posted:
THIS is what it turned out to be:
After an exchange of several E-mails I got the seller to tell me it was a Seiko Model # H558-5009
Oh yeah I thought to myself...... it's likely a piece of crap just like most of the other watches I have found.
I asked him about the shroud and did it have any cracks, missing pieces etc and he had no clue as to what I was talking about!
Ok..... I'll go see it because he wasnt asking much at all for it..... in fact....... it was DIRT cheap!!
He also had told me that it was working fine up until about 5 months ago and the battery had died!
I bought the correct battery to take with me to test it out but when I got to his place I couldnt get the back off no matter how hard I tried!
Well the watch was in such pristine condition that I didnt care if it worked or not as it was ALL original and I figured somewhere down the line I could perhaps find a working module if needed.
I got the watch home and finally popped off the back...... put in the new battery and BAMmmmmmm it works like a champ!!
NOW all I need to do is get some instructions as to how to set the darn thing! LOL
Backlight works fine and the screw down crown works a full 3-4 turns as it should!
The guy that sold it to me has something to do with making movies and handles all sorts of props! He told me that the watch had even been used in a movie but I cant prove it one way or other!
He also handled a lot of the props that went into the making of Band of Brothers and as a bonus he gave me a Camo USMC Utility coat for free!
So..... it does go to show you..... if you look long enough and hard enough eventually you will find a true GEM.
End of story..... sorry to make it so long!
As a closing footnote.... I got all the functions to work but cant get the alarm to sound! Could be a simple fix or??
