Another O/t, using Chrome this minute and it is the ONLY browser allowing me to post on WUS !!! figure that out! I use flickr and BBcode and it works great! Had been trying all the other browsers to post on WUS but always got the blank page after sending REPLY!!!

sorry, this should have gone under Peter post on Linux and ubuntu

what might be loaded on the hard drive.
So, if you are getting Japanese, the CD isn't booting. When the computer boots from the CD, the Japanese OS doesn't even get started so there is nothing to do any translation.

I like GIMP better. Once you setup GIMP to look like Photoshop, you'll never go back wink.gif

If there are any Windows apps you want to use, you can install WINE which will run them in Ubuntu(provided you have installed it in a dual boot setup.

Just make your computer dual boot when you install Ubuntu...

November 2 2010, 12:55 AM

that way you will be able to go back to Windows any time you like and you will have access to all your files from Ubuntu. With Open Office, you have complete compatibility to all your MS Office stuff happy.gif

if you want to switch, you have to reboot and make your new choice at that time.

REMEMBER to use CUSTOM PARTITIONING if installing Ubuntu!

The default one could mess with your existing Windows partition, while in custom mode you should be able to keep them both with a boot menu at the start!

when I get my monitor sorted. All is YELLOW. LOL. I'm getting a headache, ugh!

So, to recap, you did not reformat your drive and just ran Ubuntu and installs each time you boot? Or its install and no long needs cd once installed and partitioned/shared OS with XP?
Installing your Photoshop went as usual and normal?
I'm guessing this is like Parallels on a Mac. Dual OS/partitioned.

For Poyman, if I did a fresh install, lets say a new build with Ubuntu, can install and run with a raided system? Just wondering?

will try this later, I need to reconfigure my station to whichever screen I buy.
more things to do. sigh.
Thanks, guys.

You can run from the CD as many times as you like...

No score for this post
November 2 2010, 12:15 PM

it will not install or do anything to your hard drive.

If you want to install it; then you only do that once. If you want to have the computer so you can run/boot either Windows or Ubuntu; then you use the 'custom install'.

Once Ubuntu is installed on the computer, you don't need the CD any longer.

I no longer have Photoshop installed in Ubuntu as I use GIMP. If I want to use Photoshop; all I do is start it up in UBUNTU with the Windows Emulator program(WINE). Ising WINE on marginal computers will make Photoshop or any MS program run a little slower. My machine is fast enough that I don't notice.

GIMP is an open source program that does nearly everything that the full Photoshop package will do but it is free. I have GIMP configured to look and operate almost exactly like Photoshop, so it's dead easy.
