so how did you get there so soon in Texas?

That's a nice Seiko. I once saw a Swiss knockoff by Sicura. I guess that makes the Seiko officially 'iconic'.

Here's the vintage on my wrist right now:

Guildhall, made in 1950 by Newmark.

And here's a hat probably made within a year or two of the watch; Stetson, made in Australia:

... interesting how none of the Aussie's on the Lounge only have new Akubra's but none of them either have or show interest in collecting any of the vintage Akubras's. Still no word from Akubra about your Warwick even after 3 mails. Oh well happy.gif

My grandfather's hat is an Australian-made Stetson, but I don't think it was made by Akubra. Chances are back then there were a few more hat-makers in this country than there are now. If fact, given that this hat was sold exclusively by Aherns department store, it may even have been made here in Perth, but I've no idea how to track down any more info on that.

Here's the inside of the hat:

From what I have found out....

... Akubra had the sole contract to make Stetsons in Australia during the 50's. Had to do with import taxes of course happy.gif

I did not know that. So if I want to wear a non-Akubra hat...

...it will have to be this one:

Having put the Stetson and the Warwick into storage, and given a beaten-up Huckel fedora to a friend's kid, the hat stand is looking a bit less crowded. But now I'm weighing up getting a smaller-brimmed straw for summer as the Akubra Panama flaps about too much in the wind. Mrs Chascomm does not object. So there's a tip; always tidy up before you signal your intention to purchase something new.

do have a new quartz pocket watch with chain that was given to me as a retirement gift from a girl that works with me. Sorry no picture yet. It is a dark bronze pvd with a unique bronze dial. This is my last day of work for the week and then next week, I will work half days Monday and Tuesday before hitting the road to do an almost endless honeydo list that the missus has prepared.

Yes this is the biggest watch I've ever owned, but it fits pretty good. There was a day when I thought 38 mm was a bit too big, and 40 was out of the question. However things change and you really do get used to the look of a bigger watch once you start wearing them.

BTW, how did you make out getting the MM fixed?

Cheers, Al

Yeah, to be serviced

at Seiko Japan.
It took them 2 months to get around to looking at it.
So apparently, they will repair/change the crown tube/stem.
So, I'm guessing will re-weld on another one to the case.
This service will take another 2 months at least, so won't get it until next year.
The costs will but 25000 YEN, and another for full service.
So it was a better outcome than I had dreaded. Thankfully. wink.gif
Happy thanksgiving Al.
Cheers, Dave. wink.gif
