The MyHockey rankings website provides a good resource for gauging how well a team is performing - but in order to objectively compare the relative strengths - we need to dig a little deeper. The first set of rankings are ready - they will be updated every 2 weeks. Please feel free to contact the ranker on the website link. Remember - it's all for fun!

I don't mind this approach...

one comment: I still think at this level there is a wide gap in terms of strength of teams even above .500. In other words, if two teams have played the same number of games against .500+ teams, one of the teams could have played SIGNIFICANTLY better teams.

I know strength of schedule is still taken as part of the equation, but I doubt its included in this part of the formula.

What about the strength of the schedule, EMC and Clairington have easier schedules. 500 or better means nothing. My rankings are REBELS #1 YSE #2 KINGS #3 Reps #4

Calrington's ranking is a joke. They have played only 1 good team, Hamilton, and they lost to them.

Can't rank ahead of the big dogs if you don't play the big dogs!

I would agree with the EMC comment. VK definetley ranked higher. Also I dont see how the Marlies are ranked higher that the TYN's since they havent beaten them yet. (0 and 3) dating back to the spring. There are some other teams there that are ranked pretty high that play week schedules,ie. windsor and cambridge etc.

No it's not.

Teams that play in a very weak loop get credit for beating weak teams who happen to be above .500.

Beating a top team is much more difficult accomplishment than simply beating any team out there with a decent record.

Beating top teams should be given a much higher weighting. All teams with records above .500 are not created equal.

One other point, who cares about who beat who in august. Games played more recently should have a higher weight. The rankings should reflect how a team is doing now...not months ago.

the strentgh of the schedule is accounted for in the myhockeyrankings - we take this information and add a couple of weight factors based upon performance against top teams - it is a relative comparison - you can take each piece of relevant information and dissect it into 20 different meanings - these rankings provide a better evaluation for the top teams - and we will continue to adjust based on relevant feedback

That's fine, but most teams in the top 10 have not played the true top teams (Rebels, YSE, Kings, Reps). I think the other site is a little more accurate. Sorry.

Clarington lost to Hamilton in a nothing game in a tournament. They had already had their divison won and Hamilton should be thanking them for doing so as Hamilton wouldn't have moved on. Barrie pounded Hamilton twice in the same weekend and Clarington has beaten Barrie twice.
Ranked where they should be.

They are in 2nd because they are in a weak loop.

Clarington has nothing to lose when they play you big dogs that can bring players in from everywhere or have a 100 kids to choose their team from. We have the same team year after year aside from a couple of changes without the convenience of poaching talent from miles away. We aren't making excuses or whining either because it is so much more satisfying when we beat and/or compete with every team in the 2000 age group.

Too many variables to consider when ranking 9 yr olds because most teams have to fairly play everyone and rotate 2 goalies when most of the time there is a clear # 1 however, it isn't midget hockey where you ride one goalie.... unless of coarse you play in the 'G' where the 2nd goalie eats popcorn on the bench, the 5th and 6th defensemen fill water bottles, and the 7th, 8th and 9th forwards warm the center of the bench all for the low price of $5 or $6 grand. KEEP RANKING IDIOTS!!!

But it might well indicate that the Penguins are rated too highly!

More importantly, there is no where near the parity in kid's hockey, and there are also fewer upsets.

Rebels are clearly #1. One loss in the regular season, and they have won the Marlie Tournament with the YSE, Reps, Kings involved.

Kings #2. They won the Little Ceasars by defeating YSE in the finals, and have recently beaten the Rebels in the regular season.

YSE #3. Very strong team. Could easily be 1 or 2, but have yet to win a tournament. Lost to both Rebels and Kings in the finals.

After that, you have the Reps and Barrie rounding out the top 5. Until they win a tourney with any of the above teams, they should stay there.

Clarington is still a rumour as far as I'm concerned, they haven't shown up anywhere the top teams have been. EMC is lurking, give them credit for entering tournaments with the top teams. EMC ducking no one.

Who cares! This is AAA hockey. There is a chance for any of the top 5 teams (of which Barrie is not one) to beat the other on any given day. You should be happy about that. This means the competition is great and perfect for development of your kid and his team. Sometimes I think this site would show more mature comments if the kids themselves were the only ones writing in!

It's the G parents! They are wacked! They live in the city competing over who has the nicest stuff and bring the same attitude to the rink. One day, when they're senior citizens they will figure out what the important things in life are. Of course by that time it will be too late.

I didn't think Barrie deserved to be in the top 5 either, but they seem to be able to beat everyone but YSE and Clarington, the two big "D" teams. This puts them up there. Clarington should be ranked higher, but still haven't played YSE, VK, Rebels or Reps. Silver stick will be the big show down. Too bad the G money teams won't play.

The G parents will say this tourney means nothing cause they couldn't send their best. Probably just as well cause their best would have been eaten alive in a of strong competion like this. They are used to weak local league games. They don't have experience with the big international pools.

Little Ceaser's had a much deeper and stronger field, or as you put it "international pool"...won by a G team.

Somebody should organize a top 10 tournament based on the My Hockey Rankings once a year. When will there ever be a tournament when all of the top ten get to compete at once.

Rebels win Marlie Tourney, Kings win Little Ceasars, Rebels win Shanny, all with the so called top "O" teams in it. What tournaments have the big "O" teams won that involved the top "G" teams. Shut your mouth until you know what you are talking about.

At least the O teams will stay together next year while the G team will all change numerous players. I prefer to have my kid in the O so that he understands what it means to be on a TEAM.

This is the deal:

Rebels and YSE are the two top teams and have proven it consistently in league and tournament play

Clarington and Vaughn have each won a tourney and showed well in every other they have entered so I would put them at three or four

Barrie is next not because they can't beat these above mentioned teams because they are very good, but the Kings have beaten them and Clarington has proven themselves three times against them this year.

After that because these teams have not shown as well or have not been in the bigger tourneys so far this year... Hamilton, Oakville, EMC, REPS, London, Titans can be placed in any order depending on who they play each week

Vaughn and Clarington should be ranked above Barrie. Obviously a Barrie parent runs this site or at least the Ontario rankings. Losing credability.
