With only 8 points seperating 4 from 15, any one could be top 9 on any given week. Best bet is to inquire on coaches and practice shedule, etc, etc.

Top teams have more of a risk of imploding because top players are attracted to AAA and the remainder top players tend to drift towards the #1 and #2 teams.

For example I see too much talent on the Jets teams to waste another year in this loop. Similarly team like the Terriers can "pop" next year if say their goalie leaves.

The Terrier goalie is good and most likely will be gone next season to AAA but give the coach credit, he has a good defensive system so he will replace the kid and will get similar results.

Thanks coach but not quite. The team plays a little different when they know they guy in net is going to stop over 90% of the shots. I can coach that kind of defensive system.

If Hornets lose by:

3-4 goals: Expected
5-6: Big disappointment for this team
7+: Major blow-out

5-6: everyone was sick on the bench we played with one line and no goalie

What super team. Hornets will be luck to make the playoffs this year. Why would the Hornets coach go to A to pick up kids for a super team?

The answer is they cannot draw top AA talent from the existing loop.

Also Hornets and a super team. Now that is kind of joke.

Take a mid pack A team, a mid and soon to fall out of contention AA team. add whatever and you get a super AA team?

They will announce that it will be difficult to remain in the same spot in the standings unless they start to win a few games. Lets see what happens but they have been a surprise this year.

I for one did not think they would be in this position.

Listen why in the HELL would the Hornets want any kid from a mid pack A team. Nothing there other than the ER parents pimping their kid.

Also the AC coach from the Hornets has big ties into ER. He has a couple of kids playing in the ER association. Maybe it was him who complained to the Hornet brass about GH lack of political correctness.

8:54 OK coach you have a good D system. Are you happy now? It also doesn't hurt to have AAA caliber goalie, when your super defensive system breaks down.

So the score was 4 - 2. What does it mean. Jets all over Hornets but goalie played well. Or Jets were that bad tonight and took Hornets for granted.

For the Hornets to score 2 goals the Jets took them for granted.

That has been the major issue this year with a lot of teams is that the Hornets are not that bad and if you take them for granted it could cost you.

Most kids who have played in AA know about the Hornet stigma and find it hard to pick up their game against them.

Now in saying this ... second time through the Hornets will find it a tougher go as coaches and kids will be more focused.

When you learn to read, you might start to understand the question. The question was not, what happened to the F bombs, it was what happened to the lady throwing them at 11 year old boys.......stupid.

TR is a decent team but only have a 1 line punch lead by one kid. Like EC in the end this will cost you. Shut down the 1 kid and usually you have a good chance of winning.

Also TR has not had a very difficult schedule.

All this talk about difficult schedules?? There are only 2 teams on top. Don't rely on the difficult schedules to move existing standings too much. Not going to happen. HVS have proven to be beatable by mid teams which only leaves MT and MJ.

EC sure does not rely on any one player. Not saying they are ready for prime time against the top clubs but in any of their wins they get mostly even distribution from all lines. Don't know who you are referring to in "shut down 1 player" but you either have not seen them very often or you are a parent of a player?

I am really not sure what you are talking about or trying to bring a point to? Everyone will play everyone and it all comes out in the wash. EC must beat top clubs to be a top club period. This is no different then any club that wants to be considered a decent club. Prove it on the ice. Talk is cheap.

Icedogs vs. Mississauga Jets

If Icedogs lose by:

0 goal: Someone locked the Jets in the dressing room
1 goals: Dreaming.
2-3 goals: Great accomplishment
4-5: Good accomplishment, only a few teams low end teams have done this
6-7: Big disappointment for this team
8+: Major blow-out

TR is mid pack at best, they have just benefited from an easy schedule so far. Didn't they just lose to ST 5-0? Let's see how they do against better teams.

At this point in time (~1/3 into the season) the rankings show which teams had a good start or not. Most teams have ramped up by now. So the "intro" session is now over.

Part 2 of the season is to take the team to another level. This could be with better positioning, breakouts, passing, etc..., to name a few. The impact of these changes will be noticed in the rankings. This "next level" will depend on the coach and how much effort he (or they) are willing to put. If your coach is not "red in the face" after a practice, your team is in trouble.

Anyway you look at it Royals last year came in second last and have come a long way whether they stay in 4th or 5th or even 9th . Rangers were in in 4th and have gone down hill and even if they climb up a bit they still are not going to be top 5 this year. Same guy keeps posting about the easy schedule Royals have had, your a stirer, your team has played easy teams also so shut the H--l up. Who care's what you think Royals are happy being in top ten if they do. Anything more is a bonus for the Royals. As for EC same applies, being a new team they have done also well. Good job to both teams and keep fighting to make top ten, and you can say you have done well this season.

Score of 2-0, surely that can't be that bad. Considering all the posts on here consider EC a weak team, shouldn't there have been a greater goal differential? Seems to me that the Terriers can be beat, it's just a matter of time.

Braves are done. It really hurt them losing those top kids to AAA. Coach did not draw well before the tryouts. It will be harder for them to climb the standings next year since only the upper end teams get the best players.

Why do the EC parents always use the "New Team" card when they lose a game. You have a new team name "EC", the majority of your players are from last years TT team.. Stop embarrassing the kids!

Like i said, you have 9-10 YT players from last year. You add some HH players and maybe some Senators. The majority of your players are from YT - new name EC. There are other teams that have added 7-8 new players and don't keep saying "were doing pretty good for new team"

Kids who hit from behind are generally cowards, sorry if this insults anyone but its true. It takes more heart and integrity and skill not to hit from behind. Maybe you should learn no one should get injuried because junior poppy cant control himself. The next time your kid hits from behind here are two things for you 1, imagine your kid was on the receiving end, 2 worry about the kid on the ice not the kid who has to sit out because he can't follow the rules.

That's why the Jets should be in the AAA loop. Wasting a whole season playing againts these mediocre teams is a big loss. Those kids are not challenged in this loop.

Wow Best AA Hockey game I watched tonite at pinepoint.
Score was 3-0 EC. But the score did not reflect,on the play of this game at both ends,Eagles Goalie stood on his head, any other goalie would have been 10-0.
Canucks applied lots of Pressure,Canucks goalie made key saves when very much needed.Great game Canucks.

So to the poster that said Canucks are going down,Take this and put it in your pipe and smoke it.Oh ya and the Refs let them Hit.

First of all are you watching the same game is what you should ask yourself. Secondly, it was a "CLEAN" check just exactly the way the refs saw it. As usuall you assumed it was a hfb and now you made a "a$$" out of yourself. Terrier kid went down awkwardly and you call hfb and player shoulbe tossed out. This is exactly why you would be a bad choice for a ref and should never be able to ref any league. Refs called the play properly and your kid who carried into the change room was out his next shift.

"Kids who hit from behind are generally cowards" I think the person that posted this is a coward big time. You make it seem like every call for a hit from behind is intended from the player. Yes it happens but also kids turn at last minute, half the time just a bad call . I think calling them cowards is a word that is harsh. Your a jerk and I can probly say your little Johnny took a hit from behind and you and mom went nuts. And your kid does not keep his head up right. None of my kids are in hitting stages but watch older kids and you are just so wrong for useing that kind of word. Coward is you buddy!!!

Enough with this hfb crap. Your the one crying about this still and not your kid. Let it go!

Your kid was carried out and walked right back out to finish the game. This is not soccer! This not hollywood, Rob Lowe and Robbie Benson are retired from acting maybe your kid could step in, obviously you taught him well.

On another note, I like the way your parents thought our player crashed your goalie at the end, being oblivious the way you are, you did not see your player push from behind our player into your girl goalie. Another reason why you should not be a ref. No penalty called on the play because there was no penalty to start out with.

Let it go, and good luck the rest of the season Terrier parent.

Leave the Terriors goalie alone. You do not want him/her crying off the ice as well as on. Please show some respect. Dont foget the hornets won only cause of thier 'good goalie' and the Terrier's are in the top three not because of their goalie but because of their superstars right?????, hence the goals for are so high. Check it out, see how many goals they have scored......so many intelligent folk out here, do the count. And then see the lame excuses the terriers make and we talk about the girl goalie, girlie behaviour starts from the head of the team.

856 I am talking in general terms not about any one game. But Ill tell you this an idoit like you wont be happy until someone gets hurt, then you blame the kid who was hit. Just tell junior not to hit from behind but you cant because its the only way he can take someone out (a saying big in your house I bet). I bet you yell hit em, why not take the body. ill tell you why because there isnt enough violence in it for you. This is 11yr old hockey if you need violence why dont you man up and join a mens league with hitting. Bet you wont bet you cant. And for the record my son hits 5 times more then yours and has only 3 penalties on the season (none from behind) the reason he wants to seperate the player from the puck not his head from his shoulders, tell your kid to enjoy watching from the stands with a moron like you as a father the boy doesnt have a chance.

955: MT has scored 49 goals in 17 games which is 2.9 goals per game. 10 goals were scored in 1 game. Take away that game we have 39 goals in 16 games or 2.4 goals per game. They are not a powerhouse offensively, definitely something to consider when coach is looking to add 1 or 2 more players to possibly go the the OHF's next season. Defensively and goal-tending they have only allowed 11 goals in 17 games which is .65 goals allowed per game which is amazing. If you are going to beat this team you have to score at least 2-3 goals or pray for a low scoring tie.

Sorry but no tooting here. My kid doesn't even play for MT, but I think they have done a great job to date. I never would have pegged them to have this level of success so early. Last season they could score but also let it a lot of goals.

7 Mississauga Terriers 36 16 13 7 111 93 0.5441 3

3.1 scored per game
2.6 allowed per game

This year they are scoring less, but because they've improved significantly in the goals allowed category they can win a lot of games by scoring 2 goals.

Typo on my part Sherlock, but rest assured my son does not play there.

"we" was used in the context of "the team" and not "we" as in "our team".

Sorry about that.

Regardless, the numbers speak for themselves. Who'd of thunk it. If people saw that coming then I think more people would have considered trying out for their team. Don't think there was a lot of confidence with A coach coming in and bringing a few players with him.

MT trying to hide the Girl goalie, why? So she's a girl, she is doing a great job. La.......e is one of the top goalies. Be proud of it MT parent.

Your parent with the hfb calls needs to settle down and ease up on the attitude. There is help for you, any doctors on your team can give you a referral.

i coach in the loop - here is my assessment of the teams (in order of standings):

MT - good defensively especially in net. have one strong d who controls alot of the game and makes great decisions. no stars up front, not much in the way of real scoring power but can make you pay on a mistake, should finish in 2nd

MJ - strong offensively, play with a lot of pressure and discipline, use the middle of the ice well, not as strong in the back end, but never quit and just need one opportunity and will make it count, every shift has to be played well, should finish in 1st

HVS - good team, well disciplined, can transition quickly and usually capitalize on the transition, lineup is top heavy so you can take advantage of the bottom end of their lineup, will finish 3rd

TR - much improved, rely on a couple of kids, can be undisciplined, not strong on the back end (issue with most teams), but seems to be getting stronger, will likely finish in 4th

EC - have done well, also rely on a couple of kids and can be undisciplined, you can take advantage of the back end of the lineup, also have a couple of kids that can get the calls to go their way (watch the dives and theatrics), i think they finish 5th - 7th

ST - doing better, good goaltending, have generated more scoring of late, i think will upset more teams, are playoff bound, have some slower softer players too, but I think they they finish 5th - 7th

TE - doing well, goaltending is suspect, not a great skating team, weak on the back end, have a couple of smart players that carry the work load, can compete in the crowded middle pack (#5 - #15), dont think they make it in (9th - 12th)

MH - balanced team, good goaltending, fairly disciplined, play a good team game, not much in the way of offence, no stars to carry the them, but I think they make their way into the playoffs, i think they finish 5th - 7th

TID - much the same as MH but less consistent and less team play, stronger defensively than what they are given credit, goaltending is questionable - I've seen both ends of the spectrum - bad to great. No stars here either. Likely to just miss playoffs (9th - 12th)

MB - lost alot, will struggle but I think they miss the playoffs, goalies are suspect, very undisciplined (5 or more penalties i think you can count on) so will lose on special teams, (9th - 12th)

MNS - Better than they have been playing, good goaltending, not strong on defence, but enough here to make the playoffs, another inconsistent team, (8th)

VR - should have been better than where they sit, can you say Leafs, they won the VP castoff sweepstakes but seems as if there is no real chemistry, have one real strong scoring threat and a couple of others who should have been doing better, no team play, weak on d, goalies suspect at times (give up soft goals) - (9th - 12th)

DD - better than I thought they would do, are somewhat undisciplined and you can take advantage with special teams, goalies suspect too, have some speed up front but no support for it, no playoffs (13th)

HH - have one strong line, hard working team, suspect back end (goalies and D but this is common among all the bottom 13 teams - too many teams to have enough strong D and G to go around), take advantage of the bottom of the lineup and win, let their top line control the play and get opportunities and they will score, no playoffs (14th)

WML - not a real threat, one strong player up front carries the majority of the work, the small D-man impresses me, not flashy or speedy but seems to make good composed decisions, no playoffs (15th)

YT - struggling again, slow, and unable to really compete, might surprise a team or two but are where they will be at the end of the season (16th)

would be unfair to say which team but there are a lot of good coaches in this loop
some are just get villified because the parents dont see it the same way
ask questions and you will find the coach that is right for your kid
dont pick teams becuase of previous years or because of the org each team is independent
in one age one might be good and another they are terrible
base decisions on your own research too never rely on what people tell you or what is said on here - what is good for you may not be for someone else

Sorry you are so sensitive.

If you wanted to say that I am full of it because a lot of teams have not played to their potential, then I would agree with you. But telling me I am full of it because they haven't played all the teams that is full of it - 15 games is a good measure of any trend.

If your saying I am full of it because you don't think I played all the teams yet then again you are wrong because I don't need to be playing them to see them play.

There is nothing worng with what I said in my assessment in fact it is quite complimentary to the teams and at least some will look at it as issues to address with their team. Maybe you kids will work more together now. Good luck the rest of the way.

I don't coach in this loop so here are my 2 cents as a parent:

i coach in the loop - here is my assessment of the teams (in order of standings):

MT - Good defensive system, great goal-tending, disciplined team. Overall top defensive team. Will stay near top.

MJ - Strong offensively and defensively. Overall top defensive team. Will stay near top

HVS - Good team, well disciplined, good size on back. Can transition quickly and usually capitalize on the transition, will finish 3rd

TR - much improved, rely on a couple of kids, can be undisciplined, not strong on the back end (issue with most teams), but seems to be getting stronger, will likely finish in 4th. Don't agree, schedule has been kind to them. Will likely finish 6-9 range which would still be a great improvement.

EC - have done well, also rely on a couple of kids and can be undisciplined, you can take advantage of the back end of the lineup, also have a couple of kids that can get the calls to go their way (watch the dives and theatrics), i think they finish 5th - 7th. Don't agree, have also had luxury of good schedule, will finish in 6-9 range which will be great for this team considering where the players came from.

ST - doing better, good goaltending, have generated more scoring of late, i think will upset more teams, are playoff bound, have some slower softer players too, but I think they they finish 5th - 7th: Agreed, capitalizing at the right time. Need to keep it going, had a tough first part of schedule.

TE - doing well, goaltending is suspect, not a great skating team, weak on the back end, have a couple of smart players that carry the work load, can compete in the crowded middle pack, dont think they make it in (9th - 12th): Agreed

MH - balanced team, good goaltending, fairly disciplined, play a good team game, not much in the way of offence, no stars to carry the them, but I think they make their way into the playoffs, i think they finish 5th - 7th: Disagree, lack of offense will be their achilles heel, goalie can only stop so many shots. Will fall into the 9th - 12th range.

TID - much the same as MH but less consistent and less team play, stronger defensively than what they are given credit, goaltending is questionable - I've seen both ends of the spectrum - bad to great. No stars here either. Likely to just miss playoffs (9th - 12th): Disagree, I think they make it into the 7th or 8th spot. Have kept almost all of their games close.

MB - lost alot, will struggle but I think they miss the playoffs, goalies are suspect, very undisciplined (5 or more penalties i think you can count on) so will lose on special teams, (9th - 12th). Disagree, looked like they were doing fine until a few weeks back. Need to get back to that level of play and deal with undisciplined play. Could climb into 6th - 9th.

MNS - Better than they have been playing, good goaltending, not strong on defence, but enough here to make the playoffs, another inconsistent team, (8th): I am not sure how they can be better then they have been playing.

VR - should have been better than where they sit, can you say Leafs, they won the VP castoff sweepstakes but seems as if there is no real chemistry, have one real strong scoring threat and a couple of others who should have been doing better, no team play, weak on d, goalies suspect at times (give up soft goals) - (9th - 12th): Disagree, similar to MB story, will turn the ship around and find themselves in the 6th - 9th battle.

DD - better than I thought they would do, are somewhat undisciplined and you can take advantage with special teams, goalies suspect too, have some speed up front but no support for it, no playoffs (13th): Agreed

HH - have one strong line, hard working team, suspect back end (goalies and D but this is common among all the bottom 13 teams - too many teams to have enough strong D and G to go around), take advantage of the bottom of the lineup and win, let their top line control the play and get opportunities and they will score, no playoffs (14th): Agreed, but I don't think they have a top line but a more balanced approach.

WML - not a real threat, one strong player up front carries the majority of the work, the small D-man impresses me, not flashy or speedy but seems to make good composed decisions, no playoffs (15th): Agreed

YT - struggling again, slow, and unable to really compete, might surprise a team or two but are where they will be at the end of the season (16th): Agreed.

Hey 98Coach:

I think the hardest part here is how to deal with the 4-12th teams.
MT, MJ and HVS are going to finishin the top 3.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR and EC are doing well but need to see how they do against stronger teams, but then they have shown that they can better the other mid pack teams.
ST doing better, but have been inconsistent. Beat TR, HVS and MB but lost to EC, HH and MH
TE has lost to most of the mid pack teams so they might find themselves on the outside of the playoffs.
MH just don't have the scoring power, despite tying MT 2x, beat ST they lost to WM, MB and TE. They'll be outside the playoffs.
TID I've never been a big fan of this team, but they will squeak into one of the final playoff spots. Most loses have been by 1 goal.
MB too inconsistent, beat HVS, NS, TE and MH then loose to HH, VR, ST. 3 blow outs in their last 3, what's up with that? 8th or lower if trend continues.
MNS: losing to too many mid pack teams VR, ST, MB, TE, this will be their demise. They'll be outside the playoffs.
VR started like ST but have been coming on of late. beat MB and NS, tied TID and ST. Destined to finish in the playoff mob.
DD: Beat MH. VR and EC but have lost to ST, TID, TE. Appears that if you don't fall into their game style, you will win. Undisciplined teams at risk. They'll be outside of the playoffs.
HH bit of an enigma, beat ST, MB and DD but have lost to TID, MB, NS and MH. They'll be outside of the playoffs.
WML losing to too many middle of the pack teams, therefore will not move past 13th. They'll be outside of the playoffs.
YT just can't score or win. At 0-14 need to go 18-4 for their remaining games to consider a playoff spot, not going to happen.

98 Coach,

I got a question for you. In your assessments, you list that a majority of the teams have suspect goaltending. My son is a goalie in A now (I won't mention where or who or what) and last year I called many coaches to see if there were spots. Mostly got a "don't bother me your son only plays A hockey" attitude. I asked many coaches to come out and watch my son but most of the time they never came. Alright so enough of my hardluck story. My question is If there is so much suspect goaltending, why won't these coaches look at altenative sources, such as the A loop? They seem to be content on recycling the same "suspect" goalies over and over.

I look forward to your answer and will dodge the abuse that will probably be thrown my way for asking this question.

Truth is there is a lot of new goalies in this loop that did come from A including likely the best goalie in the loop (MT). If I am not mistaken he came from Cooksville (MHL A).

Another MHL A goalie went to TID. Actually they have 2 goalies who came from A.

It is better to take a risk on the one you know versus the one you don't. As a coach you want to feel comfortable with your goalie. Even if they aren't the best, you know what to expect and can coach around it.

The problem is there is not enough talent in this age group at this position - including the AAA and A loops. Again, with too many teams it makes it tough. Hate to say it but these are generally the better goalies but they just aren't solid. Of course they will improve over time.

Here is the kicker there will be more goalies in the loop next year as each team must carry two and with a rumoured 17th team coming in that is at least 4-6 new goalies in the 98 AA loop.

So keep him working and developing and just go to tryouts. Talk to coaches and some will come some wont but get honest feedback.

You want your kid to play up?

Talk to team coach your looking for your kid to play and let him know the facts. Show initiative and catch him face to face. Catch him before one of his games and have your schedule with you at least for the next 5 games on hand. Let him know what instructors your son is going to for extra practice.

Be serious about it.

Well written.

As for TID, how can you say you have never a big fan of this team - this team is essentially new I think they only had 4 returning players. The only issue here is the amount of conversation that centres on them - VR, TR, HVS, EC too - Vinny Vitello, Big Poppy, Union Leader, Crazy Mom, etc

aside from the jets pretty much every team in this loop saw big overhauls - it was actually one of the years I thought had the most moves occurred - I am not sure exactly but I think it works out like this (give or take):

MJ - 2 or 3
MT - 1/2 team or more
HVS - 4 to 6
TR - 6
EC - all
ST - 4 to 6
TE - 4 to 6
MH - most of team
TID - 10 to 12
MNS - 4 to 6
MB - 6
WML - Most
YT - Most
HH - Most
DD - 4
VR - 4 to 6

For all you know it all's - TID could have had the MT goalie BUT 1) TID coach wanted 2 goalies and b) TID coach close friend is the TID goalie and asst coach so there you have it!
TID will make playoffs and lose out in the 1st round, will not finish as high as last yr and they played with 1 goalie

I was at the game last night. Hornets were all over the Terriers. Terriers lucky to tie. Without their goalie, MT is an average team. Didn't see anything special from MT. looks like they aren't coached well. sloppy hockey play, running around with no systems.

Like I said earlier, they are a very good defensive team. Goal scoring isn't their forte, they'll need to get some goal scorers if they want a shot at GTHL Championship next season.

Big Poppy is Steve Bisser. You can find him at all the EC games. He is the guy going nuts poping his head off like a PEZ candy dispenser.
