I suppose I should narrow that by saying that the ones who dont disclose During or shortly after arethe ones who have been abused by much older more seasoned manipulators as in my Ds case, they are threatened by the older one into silence.. for usually a very long time. I would think that younger abusers say in there teens arent yet savy to the scare tactics thst are commonly used by older abusers. This is especialy true when the abuser is Dad/granddad or uncle. And maybe more so when there is no other talk or education of abuse with the family members. Or how to deal with the suggested threat and secrecy. I have heard that this is very common from not only therapists but our investigator and another law enforcement offical as well. Also in doing some reading about "grooming". There again this applies mostly to OLDER perps who know the manipultion game well. It also inclines them to prefer younger victims as there lies and threats are more convincing. My D was 8 and she believed every word her D told her about killing me if she told.. Children often percieve Adults as more capable of carrying out there threats than say a teenage perp as well.
So those are my thoughts on the matter.. You were very very lucky.
